Abstract: In an embodiment, a system comprises height-measuring circuitry coupled to a vehicle, in which the height-measuring circuitry is configured to measure a height parameter of the vehicle. The system further comprises a radio transceiver coupled to a portion of the vehicle, in which the radio is configured to transmit a radio frequency (RF) signal. The system further comprises at least one processor configured to receive the height parameter from the height-measuring circuitry. The system further comprises at least one antenna coupled to the radio transceiver and coupled to the at least one processor. The at least one antenna is configured to output the RF signal at a beamwidth, and the at least one processor is operative to configure the at least one antenna to vary the beamwidth of the RF signal based on the height parameter.

Abstract: A display system configured for displaying critical aeronautical information on an aircraft display that is not certified for displaying critical aeronautical information comprises a mounting adapter and an application server. The mounting adapter is configured to mount, in an aircraft cockpit, a personal electronic device (PED) wherein the PED is not certified to display critical aeronautical information. The mounting adapter further comprises a surface with an actuatable covering that is configured to be overlaid on a PED display and an actuation source configured to actuate the covering. The application server is configured to execute a module that generates critical aeronautical information, transmit the generated critical aeronautical information to the PED for display, determine whether a problem exists with the image displayed on the PED display, and enable the actuation source to cause the covering to annunciate a message indicating a problem with the image displayed on the PED display.

Abstract: A mounting system configured to mount a personal electronic device (PED) in an aircraft flight deck is provided. The mounting adapter includes: an annunciator light including an LED strip for providing an annunciation regarding the PED; a display disable system mounted within the mounting adapter for disabling the PED display; and a controller configured to: obtain a captured frame of the PED display; send the captured frame to a server for determining whether a problem exists with an image displayed on the PED display; and responsive to receiving an annunciation indicator from the server indicating that the problem exists with the image displayed on the PED display, enable the display disable system to shut off the PED display and command the annunciator light to illuminate in a particular color that indicates that the PED display was shut off because the problem exists with the image displayed on the PED display.

Abstract: In some examples, a terrain awareness device includes processing circuitry configured to determine a terrain feature in a travel path of the ownship vehicle. The processing circuitry is also configured to present, on a display, a first graphical user interface indicating the terrain feature. The terrain awareness device also includes a memory configured to store a location of the terrain feature, and the terrain awareness device is configured to receive traffic data from a traffic device. The processing circuitry is further configured to determine a location of a second vehicle based on the traffic data and determine that the ownship first vehicle has been instructed to synchronize with a second vehicle. The processing circuitry is configured to generate a second graphical user interface indicating that the ownship vehicle has been instructed to synchronize with the second vehicle and present the second graphical user interface on the display.

Abstract: A display integrity system for use in a mounting adapter configured to mount a personal electronic device (PED) on an aircraft is disclosed. The display integrity system includes a transparent surface configured to overlay the display surface of a PED when the PED is mounted in the mounting adapter. The transparent surface includes one or more regions embedded with one or more coating layers that when activated with a select excitation wavelength are configured to emit visible light to annunciate a message indicating a problem with an image displayed on the PED. The display integrity system further includes a lighting source housed in the mounting adapter and configured to provide light in the select excitation wavelength when activated to illuminate the transparent surface and an imaging device mounted in the mounting adapter and configured to capture an image of the PED display for transmission to a server for integrity checking.

Abstract: A landing guidance system comprises at least one edge node that operatively communicates with a mobile communications network, wherein the mobile communications network includes a network location management function, and at least one processor onboard an air vehicle, the at least one processor in operative communication with the edge node. The at least one edge node is operative to provide landing guidance information to the air vehicle by a method that comprises receiving location information from the network location management function; generating the landing guidance information for the air vehicle based on the location information; and transmitting the landing guidance information to the air vehicle when the landing guidance information meets a reliability threshold. The at least one processor is operative to guide the air vehicle to the landing target area using the landing guidance information.

Abstract: A method for verifying the integrity, continuity, and availability (ICA) of information displayed on an uncertified display is disclosed. The method includes creating application data for display on the uncertified display device that includes a subliminal symbol that is periodically embedded in a few out of multiple tens of frames and that is camouflaged in the application data using steganography; transmitting the application data to the uncertified display device for display; receiving images of the application data displayed on the display screen; determining whether the subliminal symbol is detected in the captured images by extracting the symbol from the captured images and comparing the extracted symbol to an expected symbol; determining that the application data is not corrupted when the extracted symbol matches the expected symbol; and identifying a loss of ICA when the subliminal symbol is not detected or does not match the expected symbol.
