Abstract:
A poly(vinyl chloride) product is provided containing as a permanent plasticizer, a copolymer of vinyl acetate and ethylene which is copolymerized in the presence of porous particles of the PVC. The copolymerization is carried out in either suspension or emulsion and under conditions which provide a copolymer containing 60 to 85 wt % vinyl acetate in amounts from about 20 to 60 wt % of the vinyl acetate/ethylene copolymer in the final composition. A free flowing powder is formed which can be used for PVC compounding operations. If over 60 up to 80 wt % of the composition contains the copolymer, the product is a reinforced VAE dispersion.
Abstract:
Described are blends of a crystalline poly(aryl ether ketone) and a polyarylate and/or a liquid crystalline polyarylate. These blends exhibit improved mechanical properties and environmental stress rupture resistance.
Abstract:
A novel product is disclosed for cleaning up oil spills. The product comprises ultra-fine polymeric fibers which are produced from various polymeric materials by mixing with thermoplastic poly(vinyl alcohol) and extruding the mixture through a die followed by further orientation. The poly(vinyl alcohol) is extracted to yield liberated ultra-fine polymeric fibers. The fibers are ultimately processed into said product, such as a mat, which is placed directly on the oil spill to absorb the oil.
Abstract:
This invention is directed to a molded electrical device comprising an electrically conductive pathway and an insulating material, and capable of interconnecting with external circuitry said insulating material comprising a blend of a particular amorphous polymer and a particular crystalline thermoplastic polymer. Also, this invention is directed to a composition suitable for use as an insulating material in an electrical device comprising from about 35 to about 65 weight percent of an amorphous polymer selected from a polyarylethersulfone resin, a polyarylether resin, a polyetherimide or a polyarylate, and from about 65 to about 35 weight percent of a crystalline polymer selected from a poly(arylene sulfide), a polyester or a polyamide.
Abstract:
Polymeric compositions are provided which include blends of polymers of vinyl acetate and polymers of propylene carbonate. These polymer blends exhibit excellent mechanical compatibility and are useful in molding structures, such as films, or in compounded formulations, such as emulsions and adhesives. These blends exhibit enhanced toughness superior to either of the constituent polymers alone.
Abstract:
Described herein are novel poly(aryl ether) polymers that contain naphthalene, terephenylene and/or anthracenylene units within their chains. Representative polymers are tough materials having excellent high temperature, oxidative and chemical resistance, and easy melt fabricability.
Abstract:
Described are blends of a biphenyl containing poly(acryl ether sulfone) and a poly(acryl ether ketone). These blends exhibit improved mechanical properties and environmental stress rupture resistance.
Abstract:
This invention relates to moldable polycarbonate compositions and in particular to moldable polycarbonates which have ordered, alternating repeating units derived from bis-(3,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)sulfone (TMBS) and 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane (Bisphenol A) dihaloformate, or ordered, alternating repeating units derived from bis-(3,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) sulfone (TMBS) dihaloformate and a bisphenol compound such as 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane (Bisphenol A). Such polycarbonate exhibit improved hydrolytic stability and also excellent processability in molding applications.
Abstract:
Described herein are blends of at least two separately made crystalline polyarylether resins formed into an intimate moldable mixture, each resin having, prior to being formed into said mixture (i) a different crystalline melting temperature and a different glass transition temperature, of (ii) a different molecular arrangement of unit components each resin comprising 1,4 phenylene units separated by ether oxygen and at least one of said resins containing 1,4-phenylene unit separated by a divalent carbonyl radical.
