Abstract:
A printing unit includes: a unit chassis and a pair of opposed inkjet modules mounted in tandem on the unit chassis in forward and reverse orientations, each inkjet module having one respective printhead and at least one of: a capper and a wiper. Each printhead includes first and second rows of print chips mounted on a unitary surface of a respective ink manifold, the first and second rows of print chips having a plurality of print chips butted end-on-end along a length of the printhead. The printheads are wholly aligned with respect to a media feed direction for printing in four ink colors from the pair of printheads.
Abstract:
A thread-coating system includes: a thread-coating module having a droplet ejector assembly; a thread gatherer positioned upstream of the thread-coating module and configured for arranging a plurality of threads in a thread wall; a thread expander positioned downstream of the thread-coating module for receiving a coated thread wall and expanding the coated thread wall into individual threads. The thread gatherer is configured for adjusting a spacing of threads in the thread wall and an overall height of the thread wall via a pivoting motion.
Abstract:
A method of capping printheads positioned along a curved media path having an apex. The method includes the steps of: providing a first printhead upstream of the apex and a corresponding first capper downstream of the first printhead; providing a second printhead downstream of the apex and a corresponding second capper upstream of the second printhead; moving the first capper towards the first printhead and capping the first printhead; and moving the second capper towards the second printhead and capping the second printhead. The first and second cappers are moved in opposite directions away from the apex for capping the first and second printheads.
Abstract:
An inkjet printing assembly includes: a support chassis having a plurality of datum surfaces; a print bar chassis liftably mounted on the support chassis, the print bar chassis having one or more printheads mounted thereon and a plurality of datum pins for engagement with the datum surfaces; a lift mechanism for moving the print bar chassis between a lowered position in which the datum pins are engaged with the datum surfaces and a raised position in which the datums pins are spaced apart from the datum surfaces; and one or more magnets for urging the print bar chassis towards the support chassis.
Abstract:
An integrated inkjet module for a scalable inkjet printer includes: first and second opposite end brackets; a print module asymmetrically positioned between the end brackets; and a maintenance module for maintaining an inkjet printhead of the print module. The maintenance module includes a frame fixedly mounted between the end brackets having a longer leg extending along one side of the print module and a shorter leg positioned between a first end of the print module and the first end bracket. The print module is slidably liftable relative to the end brackets, the longer leg includes a laterally extendible capper for capping the printhead and the shorter leg includes a longitudinally movable wiper carriage for wiping the printhead.
Abstract:
An integrated inkjet module includes: first and second opposite end brackets; a single print module asymmetrically positioned between the end brackets, the print module having an elongate printhead; a wiper carriage positioned between a first end of the print module and the first end bracket, the wiper carriage being configured for longitudinally wiping the printhead; and a print module carrier mounted between the first and second end brackets. The print module includes a mounting arm bridging over the wiper carriage and the print module carrier is slidably liftable relative to the first and second end brackets.
Abstract:
A printing method includes the steps of: receiving a color image and separating the color image into a plurality of distinct color planes; dithering a first distinct color plane to obtain dot data for the first distinct color plane; dithering a second distinct color plane to obtain dot data for the second distinct color plane; providing the dot data for the first distinct color plane to a first print head cartridge for printing by a plurality of nozzle rows of the first print head cartridge; and providing the dot data for the second distinct color plane to a second print head cartridge positioned downstream from the first print head cartridge in a direction of print media propagation, the dot data for the second distinct color plane for printing by a plurality of nozzle rows of the second print head cartridge.
Abstract:
An inkjet printing system includes: a plurality of print head cartridges; a print head chassis for supporting the plurality of print head cartridges; a lift mechanism for lifting and lowering the print head chassis between a printing position, a transition position, and a maintenance position; and a maintenance chassis supporting a chassis sub-frame having a corresponding plurality of maintenance cradles; and a sub-frame movement mechanism for slidably moving the chassis sub-frame with respect to the maintenance chassis. In the transition position, the print head chassis is held at a height, relative to a platen, that allows the maintenance chassis to be moved from a storage position to an operational positional under the print head chassis. Further, in the operational position, the sub-frame movement mechanism aligns a capper or a wiper with a respective printhead.
Abstract:
A printing unit includes: a fixed unit chassis having a lower cable tray mounted to a front part thereof; a movable printhead chassis having an upper cable tray mounted to a front face thereof, the printhead chassis supporting an upstream print module and a downstream print module relative to a media feed direction; a lift mechanism for lifting and lowering the printhead chassis relative to the unit chassis; upstream and downstream cable trunkings positioned at opposite upstream and downstream ends of the unit chassis for receiving electrical cabling from the lower cable tray; and upstream and downstream conduits connected to the upstream and downstream print modules respectively. The downstream cable trunking feeds cabling from the lower cable tray into the upstream conduit via the upper cable tray, and the upstream cable trunking feeds cabling from the lower cable tray into the downstream conduit via the upper cable tray.
