Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications and, more particularly, to methods and apparatus for adjusting a number of encoded bits, M, in block puncturing and/or shortening calculations to improve encoding performance. An exemplary method that may be performed by a wireless device generally includes iteratively determining a parameter, Madj, for construction of a polar code of size N for use in encoding K information bits, based on: at least two parameters, α and β, related to how many iterations to use in determining Madj, and a number of encoded bits, M; performing information adjustment allocation of the K information bits to an upper part and a lower part of the polar code based on Madj; and transmitting the upper part and the lower part of the polar code via a wireless medium.

Abstract: A device may identify that an incremental redundancy hybrid automatic repeat request (IR-HARQ) scheme is used in association with sequential transmissions of an information bit vector to or from another wireless device, where each transmission in the scheme is associated with a resource size. The device may identify a mother code length for a polar code based at least in part on an aggregate resource size associated with the sequential transmissions. The device may identify an adjusted bit index set for the polar code based at least in part on the IR-HARQ scheme. The device may transmit (or receive), for each transmission of the information bit vector, a respective subset of encoded bits generated by mapping the information bit vector to a set of polarized bit channels of the polar code in accordance with the bit index set.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described for dynamic frozen bits of polar codes for early termination and performance improvement. A wireless device may receive a signal comprising a codeword encoded using a polar code. The wireless device may perform decoding of the codeword including at least: parity check of a first subset of decoding paths for making a decision on early termination of decoding of the codeword based on dynamic frozen bits, and generating path metrics for a second subset of the decoding paths that each pass the parity check based on the dynamic frozen bits, and performing error detection on a bit sequence corresponding to one of the second subset of the decoding paths based at part on error detection bits and the generated path metrics. The wireless device may process the information bits based on a result of the decoding.

Abstract: Wireless devices may use polar codes for encoding transmissions and may support combining transmissions to improve decoding reliability (e.g., by achieving chase combining and incremental redundancy (IR) gains). For example, an encoding device may puncture a set of mother code bits using different puncturing patterns to obtain different redundancy versions for a first transmission and a re-transmission. Each puncturing pattern may correspond to an equivalent decoding performance. In some cases, to obtain equivalent puncture sets, the encoding device may perform punctured index manipulation procedures on an initial puncturing pattern. A punctured index manipulation procedure may involve switching a binary state for a binary bit at a same binary bit index for each puncture index in a puncturing pattern. A device may receive the transmissions generated using the equivalent puncture sets and may combine the information for improved decoding reliability.

Abstract: Various aspects of the disclosure relate to mapping different information to different sub-channels. For example, information for different users may be mapped to different Polar code sub-channels. In some aspects, the mapping may be unbalanced in that different information is mapped to different sub-channels according to the quality (e.g., in terms of error probability) of the sub-channels and a criterion associated with the information. For example, control information for users that are experiencing the worst channel quality (e.g., in a wireless communication channel) may be mapped to the Polar code sub-channels that have the best quality.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for constructing polar codes are provided. A transmitter determines at least one set of parameters corresponding to data to be transmitted, and a set of sorting indices corresponding to bits of the data to be transmitted based on the set of parameters, the set of sorting indices indicating a position set of the bits to be transmitted. The transmitter polar encodes the data based at least on the set of parameters and the set of sorting indices to generate a coded block of the data, and transmits the coded block of the data.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that support channel selection for parity bits in polar coding techniques. In some cases, an encoder or decoder of a wireless device may assign information bits, frozen bits, and parity check bits to polar channels of an encoder or decoder based on reliability metrics. The information bits may initially be assigned and based on a channel index of the first information bit, the parity check bits may be assigned to channels having higher channel indices than the first information bit. After assignment, the bits may be encoded or decoded.
