Abstract: An air data probe is disclosed. The air data probe may include a probe body having an interior cavity and coated by a protective shell. A sensing port may be disposed in the air data probe and may extend through the probe body. The sensing port may also be lined by the protective shell. The protective shell may be made of an austenitic nickel-chromium alloy, or stainless steel, or any relatively corrosion resistant material. The probe body may be made of nickel, or a nickel alloy, or any relatively thermally conductive material. The protective shell may be joined to the probe body by additive manufacturing, such as laser cladding. In this manner, an air data probe capable withstanding high temperatures without corrosion and yet also being relatively thermally conductive is disclosed.

Abstract: An air data probe includes a probe body including a probe wall. The probe body is formed from a first material by direct energy metal deposition. An insert is positioned in the probe wall. The insert is formed from a second material different from the first material. The insert is encapsulated in the probe wall via the direct energy metal deposition. A method of forming an air data probe includes forming one or more thermally conductive inserts, and encapsulating the one or more inserts into a wall of an air data probe via direct energy metal deposition. The air data probe is formed from a first material and the one or more inserts are formed from a second material different from the first material.

Abstract: An air data probe includes a probe head defining a longitudinal axis between a forward tip and aft base. A port opening is defined in a side of the probe head and opening at an angle with respect to the longitudinal axis. A bulkhead within the probe head has a chamber in fluid communication with the port opening. The chamber includes a single chamber inlet having an elongated cross-sectional shape. The single elongated chamber inlet is in fluid communication with two downstream pressure conduits to provide redundancy in case one of the two pressure conduits is blocked.

Abstract: A pitot tube includes a substantially cylindrical body portion having an interior defining a flow passage, and a tip portion extending along a pitot tube axis from the body portion. The tip portion includes an inlet opening, a radially tapered outer surface extending from the body portion toward the inlet opening, one or more bulkheads disposed at the interior to limit travel of particles ingested into the interior, at least one drain opening disposed directly adjacent to one of the one or more bulkheads, and one or more electrical coils comprising one or more coil wraps disposed at an interior of the pitot tube. The one or more coil wraps establish a variable watt density along the interior of the pitot tube. The one or more coil wraps also establish a variable watt density downstream of one or more of the one or more bulkheads.

The probe includes a thermocouple having a sense end in the forward tip to measure the temperature in the forward tip. The probe includes a port opening defined in a side of the probe head and opening at an angle with respect to the longitudinal axis. The probe includes a bulkhead within the probe head. The bulkhead has a chamber in fluid communication with the port opening. The chamber includes a single chamber inlet having an elongated cross-sectional shape. The single elongated chamber inlet is in fluid communication with two downstream pressure conduits to provide redundancy in case one of the two pressure conduits is blocked.
