Abstract: The present invention relates to a powder mixture for three-dimensional (3D) printing of a cermet or a cemented carbide body. The powder mixture includes 65-85 wt % of porous cemented carbide or cermet particles of a median particle size (D50) of 10-35 μm, and 15-35 wt % of a dense cemented carbide or cermet particles of a median particle size (D50) of 3-10 μm. The present invention also relates to a method of making a cermet or cemented carbide body, the method including the steps of forming the powder mixture, 3D printing a body using the powder mixture and a printing binder and thereby forming a 3D printed cermet or cemented carbide green body and sintering the green body and to form a cermet or cemented carbide body.

Abstract: A cutting tool made of a cemented carbide substrate of WC, a metallic binder phase and gamma phase is provided. The cemented carbide has a well distributed gamma phase and a reduced amount of abnormal WC grains. The cutting tool has a more predicted tool life and an increased resistance against plastic deformation.

Abstract: A coated cutting tool of a cemented carbide substrate made of WC, a metallic binder phase and a gamma phase has a well distributed gamma phase and a reduced amount of abnormal WC grains. Further, the coated cutting tool is provided with a CVD coating of TiCN and an α-Al2O3 layer, wherein the α-Al2O3 layer exhibits a texture coefficient TC(0 0 12)≥7.2 and wherein in the ratio I(0 0 12)/I(0 1 14)≥1. The coated cutting tool has an increased resistance against plastic deformation. whilst maintaining toughness.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of making a cemented carbide or a cermet body comprising the steps of first forming a powder blend comprising powders forming hard constituents and metal binder. The powder blend is then subjected to a mixing operation using a non-contact mixer wherein acoustic waves achieving resonance conditions to form a mixed powder blend and then subjecting said mixed powder blend to a pressing and sintering operation. The method makes it possible to maintain the grain size, the grain size distribution and the morphology of the WC grains.
