Abstract: A liquid crystal display according to the present inventive concept includes: a substrate; a gate line and a data line crossing each other formed on the substrate; a thin film transistor connected to the gate line and the data line; a pixel electrode connected to the thin film transistor and having a slit at a center; a liquid crystal layer filling a plurality of microcavities positioned on the pixel electrode; a common electrode positioned on the liquid crystal layer; and a roof layer formed on the common electrode and having an oblique portion formed to be inclined at both outer sides of the microcavities.

Abstract: A display apparatus includes a plurality of pixel units and each pixel unit includes a substrate, a first electrode, a second electrode, an image display part and a protective layer. The first electrode is formed on the substrate. The second electrode is formed over the first electrode while interposing a first insulating layer therebetween to define a TSC (tunnel-shaped cavity) extending in a first direction between the first and second electrodes. The image display part is provided in the TSC to display an image according to an electric field generated by the first and second electrodes. The protective layer covers the second electrode and seals the TSC. The display apparatus having the above structure is manufactured by forming the first electrode, a sacrificial layer and the second electrode and forming the image display part by removing the sacrificial layer.

Abstract: A display device includes a substrate and pixels arranged on the substrate in a matrix form. Abstract: A method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display includes: forming a sacrificial layer by stacking a non-photosensitive resin; initiating formation of an etch stop layer on the sacrificial layer; forming a photoresist pattern; completing the etch stop layer using the photoresist pattern; ashing the photoresist pattern and the sacrificial layer by using the completed etch stop layer as a mask; forming a microcavity by removing the sacrificial layer; and forming a liquid crystal layer in the microcavity. The horizontal area occupied by the sacrificial layer is reduced by forming the common electrode or the etch stop layer at an upper side, thereby increasing the aperture ratio. Further, the vertical electric field is generated without distortion by horizontally forming the common electrode on the sacrificial layer and forming no common electrode on the sidewall thereof.
