Abstract: The disclosed technology provides a system and method that improves interlaced magnetic recording (IMR) data throughput in vibration in storage systems. In one implementation, a method includes determining whether there are write retry operations in the IMR storage device, determining whether bottom track caching space is available responsive to determining whether there are write retry operations in the IMR storage device, performing a vibration detection scheme to identify vibration events responsive to determining whether bottom track caching space is available, determining if a number of vibration events is above a predetermined threshold, and writing data to available bottom track caching space responsive to determining if the number of vibration events is above a predetermined threshold.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and processes having a dependent write fault threshold are disclosed. A first sector may have a first write fault threshold and a second sector, adjacent to the first sector, may have a second write fault threshold, and the write fault thresholds can be variable based on a position error signal value of an adjacent sector. In some embodiments, the adjacent sectors may each be in an adjacent track. In other embodiments, the adjacent sectors may be in the same track. Further, a track may have two write fault thresholds, a positive direction threshold and a negative direction threshold; in some embodiments, only one direction's threshold may be variable based on the position error signal of the adjacent sector, while the opposite direction's threshold may be set to a default (e.g. pre-determined not on a sector by sector basis) value.

Abstract: A device includes a servo controller that includes or that is coupled to memory. The memory stores multiple distinct disturbance control schemes. The servo controller is configured to select and implement one of the disturbance control schemes in response to receiving a command from a host. The servo controller can be implemented on a system on a chip.

Abstract: The technology disclosed herein pertains to a system and method for managing write failures in a disc drive. Implementations disclosed herein provide a method including monitoring write fault events per sector for a storage device, in response to a write fault event, updating a write fault repeat count table, wherein the repeat count table tracks a number of write fault repeat counts per sector, comparing a write fault repeat count for a sector to a predetermined threshold write fault repeat count, and in response to determining that the write fault repeat count for a sector is above the predetermined threshold write fault repeat count, performing a write-reassign operation.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed having a write fault threshold for a set of tracks. A set of tracks may have a shared write fault threshold budget, and a write fault threshold for the second track may be selected based on the shared budget reduced by an off-track position error signal value of the first track. In certain embodiments, an apparatus may comprise a processor configured to determine a position error signal value for a first data track, set a write fault threshold for a second data track adjacent to the first data track based on the position error signal, and write data to the second data track based on the write fault threshold.

Abstract: Technologies are described herein for temporarily writing data to a buffer zone on a recording medium of a storage device when the device is operating in a vibration condition. A vibration condition is detected in the storage device, and upon detecting the vibration condition, data of a current write operation is written to a buffer zone on a recording medium of the storage device, the buffer zone being configured with a lower areal density of storage than primary storage zones on the recording medium. At a later time, an idle condition may be detected in the device, and upon detecting the idle condition, it may be determined whether the vibration condition exists. If it is determined that the vibration condition no longer exists, the data is transferred from the buffer zone to the primary storage zones on the recording medium.

Abstract: Certain exemplary aspects of the present disclosure are directed towards apparatuses and methods which mitigate the effect of speaker vibration on a disc drive. Audio associated with a speaker output is detected and triggers the generation of an output signal indicative of speaker vibration associated with such an audio output of a speaker. A magnetoresistive transducer of the disc drive is positioned relative to a storage medium based on the output signal, a target data storage location in the storage medium from which data is to be accessed via the positioning, and the position of the transducer. The output signal mitigates the effect of the speaker vibration on the transducer.
