Abstract: Provided is a liquid crystal panel sequentially including: a first polarizing plate with a first absorption axis; a first substrate including a first electrode; a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules; and a second substrate including a second electrode. The liquid crystal panel satisfies the following Formula (1) as well as the following Formula (2-1) or Formula (2-2): 5°≤|φ1−φ2|≤20° (Formula 1) 5°≤|φP1−φ2|≤20° (Formula 2-1) 65°≤|φP1−φ2|≤80° (Formula 2-2) wherein φ1 represents an azimuthal angle of a director of liquid crystal molecules near the first substrate, φ2 represents an azimuthal angle of a director of liquid crystal molecules near the second substrate, and φP1 represents an azimuthal angle of the first absorption axis of the first polarizing plate, each with no voltage applied.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer. Each pixel includes a reflection region and a transmission region. The first substrate includes a reflecting layer, a first insulating layer, and a pixel electrode. The thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the transmission region is greater than the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the reflection region, and the liquid crystal layer has a twist angle of substantially 0 degree. A surface of the first substrate that faces the liquid crystal layer includes an upper step portion, a lower step portion, and an inclined portion. The length L1 of a portion of the inclined portion included in the reflection region and the length L2 of a portion of the lower step portion included in the reflection region satisfy the relationship L1+L2≤1.81·L1.

Abstract: Provided is a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal panel including in the following order an active matrix substrate, a liquid crystal layer, and a counter substrate. Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes: an active matrix substrate including a first electrode and a second electrode configured to generate a transverse electrical field; a counter substrate including a plurality of third electrodes disposed at predetermined intervals and having a stripe pattern; a liquid crystal layer located between the active matrix substrate and the counter substrate; and a control circuit. The liquid crystal display device can display an image in a first viewing angle mode and a second viewing angle mode having a viewing angle narrower than the first viewing angle mode by the control circuit switching an amplitude and a waveform of a voltage applied to the third electrodes. The control circuit applies a common voltage having a different value to the first electrode or the second electrode in each of the first viewing angle mode and the second viewing angle mode.

The first substrate-side insulating layer includes a first thickness portion having a flat surface on the liquid crystal layer side, and a second thickness portion protruding to the liquid crystal layer side relative to the first thickness portion and disposed to face the protrusion.

Abstract: The liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes an active matrix substrate including a first electrode, a first insulating layer, and second electrodes including a first linear electrode; a color filter substrate including a black matrix, a color filter layer, a third electrode including second linear electrodes, and a fourth electrode which is a floating electrode. The third electrode and the fourth electrode are disposed between the black matrix and the liquid crystal layer. The second linear electrodes extend in a second direction and each overlap a portion of the black matrix extending in the second direction. The fourth electrode is disposed between the second linear electrodes and overlaps the black matrix in a plan view.
