An air purifier including an air sterilizing unit, an air blowing unit arranged such that air flows in the air sterilizing unit; the air sterilizing unit comprising housing and an ultraviolet light emitting device which emits deep ultraviolet rev having wavelength of 200 to 350 nm; the housing comprising a sterilizing room; the sterilizing room comprising an air intake opening and an air outlet opening; and the ultraviolet emitting device being arranged in the housing such that the deep ultraviolet, ray is emitted toward inside of the sterilizing room, wherein (A) at least a part of an inner wall surface of the sterilizing room comprises an ultraviolet reflective material which may be covered with an ultraviolet ray transmitting material, and/or (B) one or more reflector plate is arranged in the sterilizing room.

Provided is an ultraviolet sterilizer which uses as a light source a deep ultraviolet light-emitting diode which has low power consumption and long life compared to mercury lamps, wherein this compact and easily maintainable sterilizer is capable of irradiating a body to be sterilized with high-intensity deep ultraviolet light for efficient sterilization. This ultraviolet sterilizer sterilizes by irradiating deep ultraviolet light onto the body to be sterilized which flows through a flow path (140) having the periphery composed of a UV-transparent material, wherein units (130) are formed and arranged on the periphery of the light path, said units comprising a light source, which comprises multiple ultraviolet light-emitting elements arranged and formed into a module (110), and a condenser (120), which condenses deep ultraviolet light emitted from the ultraviolet light-emitting elements in the module, and the body to be sterilized is irradiated with deep ultraviolet light condensed by the condensers.

Provided is a sterilization method capable of performing ultraviolet sterilization with high reliability on, for example, an object to be sterilized having a low ultraviolet transmittance, such as foods and beverages, capable of substantially eliminating a cleaning operation for an ultraviolet transmissive window material of an ultraviolet irradiation apparatus, and having low risk of recontamination.In the sterilization method, for example, when an ultraviolet transmissive container such as a flexible bag made of an ultraviolet transmissive film of a heat-sealing resin is filled with an object to be sterilized and is then irradiated with ultraviolet light from the outside of the container to perform sterilization on the object to be sterilized, the container filled with the object to be sterilized is air-tightly sealed during a period from the end of the filling to the end of the ultraviolet light irradiation, or the ultraviolet light irradiation and the sealing are performed under an identical sterile environment.
