    Abstract: An input/output module (IOM) for use within a network storage system mounted within a rack enclosure. The IOM includes a switching component configured to provide top-of-rack (TOR) switching for data to be routed from input connectors to data storage devices within the rack enclosure. The IOM also includes a protocol interface configured to convert a protocol of the data from an input data protocol (e.g., Ethernet, Fibre Channel or InfiniBand™) to a protocol for use with the storage devices (e.g., nonvolatile memory express (NVMe) and Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe)). Among other features, the IOM allows switching to be dis-aggregated from a TOR switch and distributed throughout the data network of the rack.

    Abstract: A position sensor assembly includes: a first elongated electrical conductor, a second elongated electrical conductor, extending substantially in parallel with the first elongated electrical conductor, and a movable electrically conductive contact component, configured to move along lengths of the first elongated electrical conductor and the second elongated electrical conductor, simultaneously contacting both of the first elongated electrical conductor and the second elongated electrical conductor at different positions along each of their lengths. In such an assembly, the first elongated electrical conductor and the second elongated electrical conductor typically have a combined resistance of less than 1 ohm per meter. In any event, such an assembly can be used in a signal-reflection-based position-sensing system.

    Abstract: An optical rotary joint includes a first annular portion and a second annular portion configured to rotate with respect to each other. Optical receivers on a receiver face of the second annular portion receive from optical transmit beam launchers on an emitter face of the first annular portion. The transmit beam launchers transmit optical signals to the optical receivers as the second annular portion rotates with respect to the first annular portion.

    Abstract: Containment vessels are adapted to facilitate blast and dispersion mitigation. According to one example, a containment vessel may include at least one containment layer. At least one expansion member may be coupled to the at least one containment layer to apply a force sufficient to expand a perimeter of the containment layer(s) laterally outward. A closure system may be coupled with the containment layer(s), where the closure system is configured to cinch the perimeter of the containment layer(s) around a target object without manual intervention. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) including a containment vessel, as well as methods of making a containment vessel are also disclosed. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also included.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method of keeping an energy storage cell at or above a target temperature, includes receiving at a processing circuit, an analog voltage that is proportional to a temperature of the energy storage cell, converting, at the processing circuit, the analog voltage to a pulse-width-modulated signal having a duty cycle that is proportional to the analog voltage, and driving a switch, with the pulse-width-modulated signal, between conductive and non-conductive states to modulate a voltage passing across (or a current flowing through) a heating element in series with the switch, the heating element being in thermal communication with the energy storage cell, wherein the duty cycle of the pulse-width-modulated signal is adjusted to maintain the temperature of the energy storage cell at or above the target temperature.
