Abstract: In this invention is described: a) the preparation of a new heterogeneous catalyst based on mesoporous silica with variable geometry of pore arrangement, covalently functionalized by an ionic liquid and as a counterion a tungsten polyoxometalate (Keggin acid); b) the application of this catalyst with dual action: Bronsted-Lowry acid and oxidizing agent; and c) its application in chemical reactions is described as: condensation, oxidation, polymerization, and esterification. This type of catalyst offers the following advantages in the chemical industry 1) reusable; 2) promotes different transformations in a single stage, attributed to their acidic and oxidizing characteristics (dual action); and 3) efficiency in the chemical transformations described, which allow to obtain precursors of homogeneous hydroprocessing catalysts, of interest for some projects of transformation of heavy crude oils in situ.

Abstract: A production method comprises the steps of obtaining a mixed slurry by adding an alumina component and at least one selected from an alumina component and a clay mineral to a binder containing a silicon oxide; obtaining a metal trapping precursor by mixing the mixed slurry with a compound of a first metal component and heating the mixed slurry of metal component; and obtaining a metal trapping by drying and calcining the metal trapping precursor. A metal trapping comprises: a binder mainly containing silicon oxide, one or two selected from an alumina component and a clay mineral, and an oxide of a first metal component; having no peak of silicate of the first metal component detected in X-ray diffraction analysis, having an attrition resistance index CAI within a predetermined range. A fluid catalytic cracking catalyst comprises the metal trapping, a zeolite component, a binder component, and a clay mineral component.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to a single stage process for the direct conversion of alcohols, e.g. ethanol, to olefinic mixtures (C2-C7) with low levels of aromatics carried out in a single reactor with two fixed catalyst beds in series, or two catalytic fixed bed reactors in series wherein the first reactor operates at a lower or higher temperature than the operating temperature of the second reactor. The process transformation of ethanol is comprised of ethanol dehydration to ethylene and water in high yield with the first catalyst in the first reactor, or via the first fixed catalyst bed, followed by directly feeding the ethylene and water to the second reactor, or second fixed catalyst bed, with conversion of said ethylene and water to a C2-C7 olefinic mixture with the second catalyst(s) in high yields with minimal aromatic compound formation.

Abstract: Two different types of catalysts are disclosed. The first catalyst has a porous support that is impregnated with an active metal catalyst. The support surrounds a metallic core, which functions to increase the bulk heat capacity of the catalyst, thereby damping temperature swings during use. The second catalyst also has a porous support that is impregnated with an active metal catalyst, which is heterogeneously distributed so that the catalyst is concentrated at or near the surface of the support structure. This is accomplished by impregnating the catalyst by pouring a molten metal catalyst over the bulk catalyst supports. This method allows of a small volume of molten catalyst relative to the pore volume of the support and concentrates the catalyst in a band near the surface of the supports.
