    Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine has multiple cylinders and the cylinders are assigned a respective exhaust valve and intake valve. The internal combustion engine has a crankshaft, an intake camshaft, and an exhaust camshaft. Initially, the internal combustion engine is operated in a first operating state. A second operating state of the internal combustion engine is set by the intake camshaft being adjusted late relative to the crankshaft in comparison to the first operating state and the exhaust camshaft being adjusted early relative to the crankshaft in comparison to the first operating state. To set the second operating state, the intake camshaft is adjusted late by a first value which is in a range from 50-120 crank angle degrees and the exhaust camshaft is adjusted early by a second value which is in a range of 1-35 crank angle degrees.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, a lifter assembly comprises a lifter having a latching mechanism, a slot arranged on an outer wall of the lifter and comprising an inlet that provides access to the latching mechanism, and a pin comprising a fluid channel. The latching mechanism is switchable between a latched position and an unlatched position. The pin is configured to interface with the slot such that the lifter is prevented from rotation about a lifter axis. The fluid channel is configured to be fluidly coupled to the inlet of the slot.

    Abstract: The embodiments of the present disclosure provide a valve actuator for a specialized stationary two-piston hydraulic engine, including a specialized drive cam, an actuator, an oil drive line, and a control valve. A hydraulic linkage is maintained between a primary piston and a secondary piston when the control valve is open, and the oil drive line is drained through the control valve when the control valve is closed. In the present disclosure, by integrating the primary piston and the secondary piston in a specialized actuator, oil consumption is reduced, and with a design of the specialized drive cam, an optimized design of the valve actuator that operates independently of a positive valve mechanism is realized, thus reducing interference and influence of the valve actuator on an operation of the positive valve mechanism.

    Abstract: A valve actuation system comprises a first motion transfer mechanism operatively connected to a first valve actuation motion source and to the at least one engine valve, a second motion transfer mechanism operatively connected to a second valve actuation motion source; and a selectable coupling mechanism between the first and second motion transfer mechanisms. The coupling mechanism is operable in a first state where first valve actuation motions are conveyed to the at least one engine valve via the first motion transfer mechanism, and a second state where second valve actuation motions are additionally conveyed to the at least one engine valve via the second motion transfer mechanism, the coupling mechanism and the first motion transfer mechanism. During a handoff between the first and second valve actuation motions or vice versa, a difference in valve actuation velocities of the first and second valve actuation motions does not exceed a threshold.

    Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, an internal combustion engine, in which a valve is opened and closed when a piston reciprocates in a cylinder, has a configuration to perform repeatedly the following combined strokes: an intake stroke→a compression stroke→a combustion stroke→an exhaust stroke in a four-cycle internal combustion engine are combined with an intake and compression stroke→a combustion and exhaust stroke in a two-cycle internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine can reduce pumping loss in a six-cycle internal combustion engine and increase the output.

    Abstract: An engine variable valve train is provided with a cylindrical cam carrier fitted on a camshaft in a manner axially slidable to and co-rotatable with the camshaft. The cam carrier has therearound mutually adjoining low-speed and high-speed cam lobes selectively acting on the engine valve and being different in cam profile. The cam carrier has therearound lead grooves to be engaged with or disengaged from changeover pins for axial shift of the cam carrier. The lead grooves include a speed-increasing lead groove for changeover from the low-speed to the high-speed cam lobe and a speed-decreasing lead grooves for changeover from the high-speed to the low-speed cam lobe. The speed-increasing and speed-decreasing lead grooves are different in groove contour. This enables the cam carrier to axially shift smoothly and to improve the durability of the lead grooves.

    Abstract: A valve drive may include a sliding cam element that is held on a carrier shaft so as to be axially displaceable along an axis of rotation of the carrier shaft. The sliding cam element may include at least one cam profile group with cam profile sections of mutually different form. The valve drive may further include a pick-off element by way of which a control movement can be picked off from the cam profile sections and transmitted to a valve. The sliding cam element may also include a second cam profile group that is similar or identical to the first cam profile group and, which for the joint control of one valve, may interact with the pick-off element.
