In at least one axial position, an actuation contour of the one or more actuation contours is arranged at least partially in the spatial sensing area of a sensor of the one or more sensors.

Abstract: An exhaust passage structure of an internal combustion includes a first merging passage, a second merging passage, and a third merging passage connecting a third gathering portion in which the exhaust gas flowing through the first merging passage and the exhaust gas flowing through the second merging passage gather and a turbine of a turbocharger. The first merging passage and the second merging passage have respective narrowed portions in which passage cross-sectional areas are minimized. When a total value of passage cross-sectional areas of inlets of exhaust ports in one cylinder is set as a reference passage cross-sectional area A, and the passage cross-sectional areas of the narrowed portions of the first merging passage and the second merging passage are set as narrowed cross-sectional areas B, the exhaust passage structure is configured such that the relationship of 0.5≤(B/A)≤1 is established.

Abstract: Systems for valve actuation in internal combustion engines provide configurations for hydraulic lash adjusters and valve actuation valvetrain components that are particularly suitable for prevention of HLA jacking in dedicated cam environments including Type II valvetrain architectures. In one implementation, a lash adjuster loading component, which may comprise a stroke-limited spring biased piston associated with the main event valvetrain keeps the lash adjuster under a constant compressive force to prevent jacking.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for providing compression release during a stop/start event in an engine. In one example, a method includes: responsive to a request for a stop/start event in an engine with a continuously variable valve lift (CVVL) system including a compression release hydraulic valve actuator coupled to a valve of a first cylinder, determining a desired stop position of the engine; and prior to restarting the engine during the stop/start event, adjusting the compression release hydraulic valve actuator to open the valve during a compression stroke of the first cylinder. In this way, an amount of torque used to restart the engine may be reduced.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine for a motor vehicle includes a crankshaft, a camshaft, a cylinder, a piston movably disposed in the cylinder and coupled to the crankshaft for driving the crankshaft, a first gas exchange valve which is assigned to the cylinder, a first valve clearance compensation device, where via the first valve clearance compensation device the first gas exchange valve is displaceable between a first open position and a first closed position by a first cam of the camshaft, and a control unit. The control unit is configured to align the camshaft such that the first valve clearance compensation device is pressure-loaded in the idle state of the crankshaft by a plateau area assigned to the first cam to hold the first gas exchange valve in the first open position.

Abstract: A force transfer arrangement for transferring a force from a rotating camshaft to an output device, that is able to reduce the transversal force on the camshaft. The proposed connection device force transfer arrangement is configured to cause forces to act on the camshaft from substantially opposite directions which effectively produces a resultant force on the camshaft to be close to zero, or at least be reduced compared to prior art force transfer solutions. Thus, the transverse forces on the camshaft and therefore on e.g. bearings supporting the camshaft are reduced thereby the lifetime of the bearings is prolonged.

Abstract: An engine variable camshaft timing phaser (10) includes a sprocket (12) and a planetary gear assembly (14). The sprocket (12) receives rotational drive input from an engine crankshaft. The planetary gear assembly (14) includes two or more ring gears (26, 28), multiple planet gears (24), a sun gear (22), and a wrap spring (76). One of the ring gears (26, 28) receives rotational drive input from the sprocket (12) and one of the ring gears (26, 28) transmits rotational drive output to an engine camshaft. The sun gear (22) engages with the planet gears (24). The wrap spring (76) experiences expansion and contraction exertions to permit advancing and retarding engine valve opening and closing, and to prevent advancing and retarding engine valve opening and closing.
