    Abstract: A lean-burn gasoline engine (110) is described, which comprises an air intake port having an air intake port inlet, an air intake port outlet, and an air channel (45) connecting the air intake port inlet to the air intake port outlet, a combustion chamber (50) having a combustion chamber inlet being connected to the air intake port outlet, the combustion chamber inlet having a throat where the air intake port outlet meets the combustion chamber inlet, a movable valve (51) comprising a valve head bottom surface (61) that faces the combustion chamber (50), a valve head top surface (62) that faces the air intake port and a valve stem (53), the movable valve (51) being arranged to move between a closed state for closing off the combustion chamber inlet and an opened state wherein intake air can flow from the air intake port into the combustion chamber (50), and a valve guide opening (69) in an upper wall of the air channel opposite the top surface (62) of the movable valve (51), and a valve guide passage (66) extending into the upper wall and away from the valve guide opening (69), the valve guide passage (66) having a passage wall and housing a valve guide (65) arranged to guide the valve stem (63) and permit movement of the movable valve (51) between the closed state and an opened state. The valve guide opening (66) comprises a first edge distal from the air intake port outlet and a second edge proximal to the air intake port outlet, the first edge defining a sharp transition, at a first angle, between the upper wall and the passage wall of the valve guide passage (66).

    Abstract: Internal combustion piston engine includes a cylinder head partly defining two ducts and a combustion chamber, and poppet valves movably arranged in the cylinder head between positions allowing or preventing flow between the combustion chamber and the ducts. The poppet valve has a stem, a valve head having a hollow interior space, a lower surface facing the combustion chamber, an upper surface including a portion adjacent the stem, and a peripheral edge section that extends from the upper surface of the valve head to the lower surface. The valve head is formed separate from but connected to the valve stem in a manner to enclose the hollow space, for example, by a circumferential welding seam. The peripheral edge section contains an arcuate contact surface that extends from the upper to lower surfaces of the valve head and without any sharp edges between upper and lower surfaces.

    Abstract: A sliding member includes a base substrate and a coating layer formed on the base substrate. The coating layer includes an inorganic part derived from at least one type of inorganic particles selected from the group consisting of iron base alloy particles, cobalt base alloy particles, chromium base alloy particles, nickel base alloy particles, molybdenum base alloy particles, and ceramic particles, and a metal part derived from at least one type of metal particles selected from the group consisting of iron base alloy particles other than listed in the above group, copper particles, and copper alloy particles. The inorganic part is bonded to another inorganic part and/or the metal part via interfaces therebetween, and the metal part is bonded to another metal part and/or the inorganic part via interfaces therebetween. The sliding member includes an interface layer including at least one of a diffusion layer and an intermetallic compound layer on at least one part of an interface between the base substrate and the coating layer or interfaces between the inorganic part and the metal part, the inorganic parts, and the metal parts. The interface layer has a thickness of equal to or less than 2 μm.

    Abstract: A sealing device seals a rod having a cylindrical part and a cylindrical guide that guides reciprocation of the rod in an axial direction of the rod. The sealing device includes an elastic ring formed of an elastic material, and a rigid ring formed of a rigid material fixed to the elastic ring for reinforcing the elastic ring. The elastic ring includes a lip with which an outer peripheral surface of the rod is in slidable contact. The rigid ring includes a rigid-ring cylindrical part located radially outside an end portion of the guide. The rigid-ring cylindrical part includes multiple hook hasps engaged into at least one recess formed on an outer peripheral surface of the guide. Each of the multiple hook hasps includes a root portion and a distal end portion located radially inward of the root portion and fitted into the recess. A thin portion is formed at the root portion of the hook hasp, the thin portion being thinner than other parts of the hook hasp.
