    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an apparatus for transmitting gaseous ionic sample material for subsequent analysis, in particular mass analysis, comprising: a first vacuum chamber through which ionic sample material is guided, the first vacuum chamber being kept in a first pressure range, a second downstream vacuum chamber through which ionic sample material is guided, the second downstream vacuum chamber being kept in a second pressure range which is substantially higher than the first pressure range, and a first gas inlet assembly located substantially at the second vacuum chamber and designed and configured to introduce gaseous matter, which does not originate from the first vacuum chamber, directedly into the second vacuum chamber.     Abstract: An ion optical arrangement (1) for use in a mass spectrometer comprises a collision cell defining an ion optical axis along which ions may pass, electrodes comprising a set of parallel poles (11A, 11B, 11C) arranged in the collision cell, and a voltage source for providing voltages to the electrodes to produce electric fields. The ion optical arrangement is arranged for switching between a first operation mode in which the collision cell is pressurized and a second operation mode in which the collision cell is substantially evacuated. The ion optical arrangement is further arranged for producing a radio frequency electric focusing field in the first operation mode and a static electric focusing field in the second operation mode.

    Abstract: An ion guide may comprise a set of plate electrodes, each plate electrode having a plurality of apertures formed therethrough. The set of plate electrodes are spatially arranged such that a relative positioning of each plurality of apertures of a respective plate electrode of the set of plate electrodes and respective adjacent plate electrodes of the set of plate electrodes defines a continuous ion flight path through the respective plurality of apertures of each plate electrode of the set of plate electrodes.     Abstract: A gas retaining ion guide has RF electrodes distributed about an ion region that provide an RF confinement field for ions therein. DC electrodes are also provided that extend from an entrance of the ion guide to an exit, and provide a DC electric field. The DC electrodes are further from the central axis than the RF electrodes, and each provides a gas seal between two adjacent RF electrodes. Conductive surfaces of the DC electrodes establish the DC electric field through gaps between adjacent RF electrodes, and the conductive surfaces have a distance from the central axis that changes over the length of the ion guide so as to provide an axial DC field component. The size of the DC electrode conductive surfaces and a width of the gaps between RF electrodes may be selected to ensure that ions escaping confinement through the gaps are discharged on the conductive surfaces.

    Abstract: An ionizing system includes a flange device for connection to a mass spectrometer or ion mobility spectrometer having the property of providing a barrier between the lower pressure region of the spectrometer and a higher pressure region substantially at atmospheric pressure, and a channel therethrough providing fluid communication between the higher and lower pressure regions. A plate device independent of the flange device which can accommodate multiple samples, such as a sample plate device, when placed over the channel in the flange device substantially seals the channel Sliding the sample plate device while in intimate contact with the flange device provides a means to sequentially and rapidly expose said samples to the opening of the channel and thus the lower pressure region. Samples are ionized when exposed to the lower pressure region in as little as one sample per second using multiple ionization methods.

    Abstract: It is proposed to improve transmission of ions along the curved path of an ion guide by changing the separation between adjacent multipole rods in the plane of curvature. As the separation increases along the length of the device, the ion confinement in the plane of curvature decreases. At the same time, the external field penetration from the electrodes outside of the main ion guide increases which can be used to create additional DC field gradients to facilitate ion confinement and motion through the ion guide.

    Abstract: An embodiment of the present disclosure relates to a detector that includes an AD and detects charged particles or light, and enables speeding up of response of the detector without changing a structure of the AD that limits the response of the detector. A drive circuit of the AD includes a first capacitor and a first resistor. Both the first capacitor and the first resistor are connected in series to the AD in a state where both terminals are set to have the same potential. This configuration reduces the apparent capacitance of the AD and speeds up the response of the entire detector including the drive circuit.
