The present invention relates to preparation of biodegradable microparticles formed from polylactide-polyglycolide copolymers (PLGA) polymer and how to achieve sigmoidal release of active pharmaceutical compound from the microparticles. In particular, the present invention relates to emulsification of an inner/oil phase to an outer/water phase followed by quenching and a single drying step for the preparation of microparticles having a preferred release profile of preferably basic/nucleophilic compounds such as risperidone. Alternatively the present invention is also suitable for hydrophobic compounds that have poor water-solubility and a high drug loading of >20% w/w is required. The release profile can be controlled by adjusting the degree of saturation of the outer/water phase with the organic solvent used in the inner/oil phase, the polymer concentration of the inner/oil phase and the temperature at the quenching step. In particular, an initial lag phase and a substantially sigmoidal release profile are achieved by using an outer aqueous phase over saturated with the solvent used in the inner phase at emulsification step, in combination with a low temperature during quenching.

Heart rate monitors are plagued by noisy photoplethysmography (PPG) data, which makes it difficult for the monitors to output a consistently accurate heart rate reading. Noise is often caused by motion. Using known methods for processing accelerometer readings that measure movement to filter out some of this noise may help, but not always. The present disclosure describes an improved front-end technique (time-domain interference removal) based on using adaptive linear prediction on accelerometer data to generate filters for filtering the PPG signal prior to tracking the frequency of the heartbeat (heart rate). The present disclosure also describes an improved back-end technique based on steering the frequency of a resonant filter in order to track the heartbeat. Implementing one or both of these techniques leads to more accurate heart rate measurements.

A dish treating appliance for treating dishes according to a cycle of operation can include a tub defining a treating chamber. The treating chamber can fluidly couple to condenser having an inlet, an outlet, and a condensing passage. The condenser can further include multiple ambient air inlets to mix humid air drawn from the treating chamber with ambient air within the condenser. The condenser can further integrate a water inlet with a condenser outlet, such that a water supply and condensed liquid can be provided to the treating chamber through the same opening.

A foldable flat mop is provided that has a pair of carrier plates, which define an unfolded position, a folded position with a minimum distance between the tips of the carrier plates, and a deflected position where the carrier plates are deflected towards one another to reduce the minimum distance between the tips. The foldable flat mop can include one or more biasing members that bias the carrier plates to an intermediate position between the folded and unfolded positions. The carrier plates can have a scissor-like arrangement with the tips of the carrier plates being on an opposite side of the centerline from that pivot axis of that carrier plate.
