    Abstract: PURPOSE: Biomedical implants containing surface-modified metal particles and biodegradable polymers, the use of the same for suppressing inflammation, and a method for preparing the same are provided to improve the mechanical characteristic of the biodegradable polymers and to suppress the inflammation and cytotoxicity. CONSTITUTION: Biomedical implants contain surface-modified metal particles and biodegradable polymers. Acidic materials generated from the degradation of the biodegradable polymers are neutralized with basic metal particles to suppress inflammation. The basic metal particles are selected from a group including particles of a selected metal and particles of a selected metal compound. The metal is selected from a group including alkali metals and alkali earth metals. The metal compound is selected from a group including the hydroxide of alkali metals, the oxide of alkali metals, the hydroxide of alkali earth metal, and the oxide of alkali earth metal.
