Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition for preventing or treating asthma is provided to show an antioxidative effect and to suppress NO generation, iNOS expression, edema, inflammatory cell invasion, and myeloperoxidase activation using a Dianthi herba extract, thereby showing a superior anti-inflammation effect. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases contains a Dianthi herba extract as an active ingredient. The extract is extracted by mixing 1 part by weight of Dianthi herba with 5-30 parts by weight of 60-80 % ethanol solution. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases contains the extract as an active ingredient. A cosmetic composition for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases contains the extract as an active ingredient.
