Abstract:
A method for encoding/interleaving a source sequence of data symbols to be transmitted, to give at least two packets to be transmitted consisting of said data symbols to be transmitted and redundancy symbols. The method comprises the steps of writing (3) the data symbols to be transmitted into a basic matrix; storing the basic matrix in a first quadrant of an extended transmission matrix; performing primary (5) and secondary (6) coding along the columns and rows respectively of the basic matrix, to generate first and second redundancy symbols that are stored in second and third quadrants of the extended transmission matrix and form additional rows and columns of the basic matrix; and reading (7) the extended transmission matrix row by row (or column by column), each row (or column) of the extended transmission matrix being one of the packets to be transmitted (2).
Abstract:
An air interface adapting method for a mobile radio system transmitting frames between at least one mobile station and at least one base station, each frame consisting of N time intervals. A data packet may be transmitted in each time interval and each time interval is associated with a separate communication between a mobile station and a base station. The method comprises analysing (62, 66) the transmission channel quality for each communication via a transmission channel, and, on the basis of the analysis, selecting (64, 68) either a first transmission mode, in which the data to be transmitted is arranged in first blocks resulting from a first source block encoding process, the size of each of the first blocks being greater than the capacity of (P-1) packets, where P is an even number of at least two, and the data in a single first block being distributed between at least P packets of a packet; or a second transmission mode, in which the data to be transmitted is arranged in second blocks each having a size no greater than the capacity of P/2 packets, the data in a single second block being distributed between no more than P/2 packets, and at least P/2 packets being available relative to the first transmission mode, and in which an automatic retransmission request mechanism is used to repeat the transmission in said available packets of the second blocks for which poor reception has been sensed, said second transmission mode requiring a higher transmission channel quality than said first transmission mode.
