Abstract: Base matl. used to prepare leather for top coats or finishes consists of an aqs. emulsion of chloroparaffins dispersed with a cationic dispersing agent, which emulsion may also contain dyes, pigments and/or polymer dispns. The compsn. is hydrolysis-resistant and light-fast and has a higher age-resistance than similar compsns. based on natural oils or triglycerides. The chloroparaffins are chlorinated hydrocarbons of 12-30C, pref. 18-24C, contg. 20-60 wt%, pref. 25-35 wt%, Cl, and =10 wt% branched components and they constitute 25-65 wt%, pref. 40-50 wt%, of the compsn.
