Abstract: The parent patent concerns copolyamides (I) with K values of 35-70 (1% soln. in 96% H2SO4 at 20 degrees C), obtd. by melt condensn. at 180-300 degrees C from 5-18 (wt.)% hexamethylenediamine adipate (II) and 95-82% salt (III) of piperazine and mixts. of decane-1,10-dicarboxylic acid and azelaic acid in 70:30 to 95:5 molar ratio, opt. in the presence of traces of a monocarboxylic acid as mol. wt regulator. In this patent of addn. the novel feature is that a salt (IV) of adipic acid with a 5-20, pref. 6-15C (cyclo)aliphatic prim. diamine is used instead of (II). (I) are specified for dressing artificial leather with a plasticised PVC surface. (I) form stable solns. in the usual solvent mixts., adhere firmly and permanently to the surface, have good feel, gloss and mechanical properties and retard plasticiser and dyestuff migration.

Abstract: Base matl. used to prepare leather for top coats or finishes consists of an aqs. emulsion of chloroparaffins dispersed with a cationic dispersing agent, which emulsion may also contain dyes, pigments and/or polymer dispns. Abstract: Nylon copolymer containing piperazine and a process for finishing leather and imitation leather, having a surface of polyurethane or plasticized PVC, by applying a solution of this nylon copolymer and drying it. The overall properties of the finish are better then those of conventional finishes.
