Abstract: Keratinous textiles are subjected to (1) treatment with an aq. soln. of a chlorocyanuric acid or its salt, followed by dechlorination (opt) washing and drying; and (2) after treatment with a dispersion of a polymer based at least on one acrylic acid ester. This process is improved in that the amt. of active chlorine virtually acting in stage (1) does not exceed 1.6 wt.% w.r.t. the weight of the textile material; this stage lasts for 1-10 secs. at a nearly neutral pH. Stage (2) comprises impregnation with an aq. dispersion of a reactive film-forming copolymer derived e.g. from a (meth) acrylic acid amide and contg. N-methylol gps. or their ethers, and an acetylising catalyst. Drying and fixing is effected by thermal treatment at 80-120 degrees C. The conditions of the whole process are very mild so that keratinous fibres are not damaged; in fact, their strength is increased and there is no tendency to yellowing. The process can be carried out continuously.
