Abstract: A process for coloring paper with an acid dye and/or direct dye in an aqueous medium in the presence of a water-soluble reaction product of an alkylating agent, possessing an aromatic substituent, with a cationic polyelectrolyte. Abstract: Mixt. of 0.5-10 pts. wt. trimethylamine per 100 pts. wt. of another tert. amine is used as the tert. amine in fatty alkyl diketene, (I), prepn. by (a) reacting fatty acid halides with tert. amines in inert, organic solvents at up to 90 deg.C; (b) washing out the reaction mixt. with water; (c) separating the organic phase; and (d) recovering (I) by organic solvent evaporation. Aq. emulsions of (I), or mixts. of (I), are used as bulk sizing agents for paper, e.g. in 0.05-0.15% concn., calculated as solids, w.r.t. pulp. Trimethylamine addn. suppresses viscosity increase during amine addn. and increases purity of (I).

Abstract: A fabric, fleece or felt etc of predominantly synthetic fibres is impregnated with an aq. soln before, during, or after its consolidation with binders based on dissolved or dispersed polymers. The saq. soln contains pref. 7-25% polyethylene-imine; it also contains cross-linking agents with several functional gps. pref. to 2.5-10% of the wt of polyethylene-imine. The impregnated and consolidated material is dried at 80-160 degrees C with infra-red or hot air. The final prod. is suitable for shoes, garments or cushion covers.

Reaction is in a polar solvent at 20-180 degrees C. In this addn. (I) are used as corrosion inhibitors for Zn, Al or their alloys. (I) give protection against corrosion at all pH levels and in low concn., and can be used in various metal-treating processes. Acid-sensitive alloys, e.g. "Duralumin" (RTM can be protected in strongly acid media (pH 2).

Abstract: Reaction prods. from block copolymers of formula RO(CH2CH2O)X-(CH2(CH3)CHO)y-(CH2CH2O)x-R (I) (where R is x is 50-250; y is 20-100; x:y is 6.5:1 to 1:15), with cpds. contg. >=4 basic NH gps., in wt. ratio 0.8-30:1, or with ethylene imine in wt. ratio 1:0.1-0.8, in polar solvent at 20-180 degrees C, are used as release agents. Used for applying to hot moulds and processing equipment, e.g. for mixing, calendering, etc., esp. for thermoplastics and rubber, and film, sheet, etc. Excellent release is obtd. without affecting adhesion of subsequent coatings. Blocking of plastics or rubber sheet in roll form during storage is prevented. In dil. aq. systems they give high viscosity, which increases with rising temp. stabilising the vapour cushion which forms on the surface of hot moulds and prevents adhesion.
