Abstract: The invention relates to a polymerization initiator containing an alkaline-earth metal compound selected from the group: a) of the heteroleptic alkaline-earth metal compounds of formula (I) L - M - R or; b) of the cationic alkaline-earth metal complexes of formula (II) [D -} M - R] X , whereby M represents Ca, Sr or Ba; L represents a ligand which is inactive with regard to polymerization; R represents a ligand which is active with regard to polymerization; D represents a donor ligand and; X represents a non-coordinating anion. The invention also relates to methods for producing the polymerization initiators and to methods for carrying out anionic polymerization in the presence of the polymerization inhibitors.
