Abstract: Water is partially removed from cyclohexanone oxime (I) by treating the impure I at a bove the m.pt in counter current in an extn. column, with a conc. ammonium and/or hydroxylammonium salt soln., sepng. the salt soln from I with reduced water content, concentrating the soln by evapn. and using it again for partial removal of water from I. The I is more suitable for prodn of caprolactam. The process is continuous. Residues of cyclohexanone in I are completely removed, with conversion to I during the removal of water.
