Abstract: A process for preparing copolymers which comprises copolymerizing (A) at least one ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic anhydride derived from at least one dicarboxylic acid having 4 to 8 carbon atoms, (B) at least one vinylaromatic compound, and (C) optionally at least one non-(A) ethylenically unsaturated comonomer containing at least one heteroatom, (D) reacting the copolymer with at least one compound of the formula I a or I b where A 1 is C 2 -C 20 alkylene, identical or different, R 1 is C 1 -C 30 alkyl, linear or branched, and n is an integer from 1 to 200, hydrolyzing the product with water or an aqueous alkaline solution, and subsequent to hydrolysis adding further free-radical initiator.

Abstract: Procedimiento para la obtención de copolímeros, caracterizado porque se copolimerizan (A) al menos un anhídrido de ácido dicarboxílico, etilénicamente insaturado (A), derivado de al menos un ácido dicarboxílico con 4 hasta 8 átomos de carbono, (B) al menos un compuesto vinilaromático y (C) opcionalmente, al menos, un comonómero etilénicamente insaturado, diferente de (A) con, al menos, un heteroátomo, se hace reaccionar con (D) al menos un compuesto de la fórmula Ia o Ib se hidroliza con agua o con solución alcalina acuosa, y se añade de nuevo iniciador después de la hidrólisis, definiéndose las variables en la fórmula Ia y Ib de la manera siguiente: A1 significa alquileno con 2 hasta 20 átomos de carbono, siendo iguales o diferentes, R1 significa alquilo con 1 hasta 30 átomos de carbono, lineal o ramificado, n significa un número entero desde 1 hasta 200.
