Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved crosslinkable achiral liquid crystal monomer enabling the production of a liquid crystal polymer having high crosslinking density. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal-based material. SOLUTION: This liquid-crystalline composition of matter comprises, as components, (A) a compound of formula I: Z1-Y1-A1-Y3-M-Y4-A2-Y2-Z2 [wherein Z1 and Z2 are each a reactive group; Y1 and Y4 are each a single bond, O, S, OCO or the like; A 1 and A2 are each a 1-30C spacer; M is a mesogneic group]. (B) a compound selected from a group consisting of subgroups: (b1) vinyl or allyl ethers, (b2) vinyl or allyl esters of saturated or unsaturated carboxylic acids, (b3) methacrylic or acrylic esters of monofunctional or polyfunctional alcohols, (b4) polyester (meth)acrylates, (b5) vinylaromatics or vinylheteroaromatics and (b6) compounds of general formula II: CH2=CH-NR2-R1 [wherein R1 is COOH, H or the like; R2 is hydrogen, an alkyl group or the like] and (C) if desired, further additives.
