    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the polymerisation of a mixture containing at least one radically polymerisable monomer and a transition metal complex, the transition metal of said complex being able to reversibly bind a halogen atom. The oxidation state of the transition metal is changed from a first oxidation state to a second oxidation state, in the presence of an initiator R-Y, wherein Y represents halogen and R represents alkyl, substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl (substituted or unsubstituted), aryl or -CHnHal3-n, wherein n = between 0 and 2 and Hal = halogen, in an aqueous system. The transition metal is linked, by means of suitable active groups, to the hydrophobic part of an amphiphilic polymer consisting of a hydrophilic part and a hydrophobic part. The invention also relates to a corresponding transition metal complex, a conversion product which can be obtained according to the inventive method, and to the use of the inventive transition metal complex for producing conversion products by means of radical polymerisation.

    Abstract: Production of halo- or chlorosulfonyl-functional polymers (I) comprises radical polymerization of an aromatic monomer (IIa), a halo- or chlorosulfonyl-functional monomer (IIb) and another monomer (IIc). Production of halo- or chlorosulfonyl-functional polymers (I) comprises radical polymerization of a monomer of formula (IIa), a halo- or chlorosulfonyl-functional monomer (IIb) and another monomer (IIc). R1-R4 = H or optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl, at least two being aryl, or R1+R2 or R3+R4 is an aryl-substituted functional group having a carbon-heteroatom multiple bond conjugated with the C=C group. Independent claims are also included for: (1) polymers (I) produced as above; (2) production of graft copolymers by reacting (I) with monomers; (3) graft copolymers produced as above.
