Abstract: 1488993 Recording apparatus BECKMAN INSTRUMENTS Inc 27 Jan 1975 [19 Feb 1974] 3468/75 Heading G1J A radiant energy analyzer has a chart recorder for producing a wavelength spectrum plot of a sample. A motor 24 drives a chart along an abscissa scale to correspond with the movement of a wavelength-scanning mechanism driven by motor 26. Frequency-dividing circuits 30, 32, 36, 38 are adjustable to provide a variation of the abscissa scale. A motor 14 drives a pen marker along an ordinate scale in response to an optical characteristic of the sample, all or a selected part of the input signal being used. The length of the ordinate scale is determined by circuit 22. Predetermined combinations of ordinate and abscissa scales may be selected by a switch 42 to suit, for example, charts with metric or Imperial units. The arrangement is also applicable to circular charts.

Abstract: An optical attenuator for adjusting the amount of radiant energy passing through a variable aperture formed by a pair of apertures in opposing portions of a continuous loop metal strip encircling first and second parallel shafts with the free ends of the strip being secured to one shaft to form the loop. One of the parallel shafts is provided with cam surfaces for adjusting the spacing between the parallel shafts to thereby increase the tension on the continuous loop. Two pairs of rollers abut the outer surfaces of the metal strip to maintain the apertures in the strip in close sliding relationship. One of the shafts is provided with drive means to provide bidirectional angular rotation to thereby vary the relative positions of the pair of apertures with respect to each other to control the energy of the light beam passing therethrough.
