    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microwave resonator having an external temperature compensation device that is not susceptible to a thermal effect. SOLUTION: The microwave resonator with a cavity having a specific volume has an external temperature compensation structure. The temperature compensation structure is formed on a wall of the microwave resonator. When the microwave resonator and the temperature compensation structure are subjected to distortion caused by heat, the temperature compensation structure applies a restoring force to the wall of the microwave resonator so as to distort the wall oppositely against the distortion caused by the heat thereto maintain the specific volume of the cavity.

    Abstract: A microwave filter has a set of irises to couple cavities within the filter. A trifurcated iris comprises a central iris and a pair of peripheral irises. The peripheral irises are configured and oriented to couple a primary mode having a magnetic field in the axial direction of a filter cavity. The central iris is configured and oriented to couple a secondary mode having a magnetic field in the azimuthal direction of the filter cavity. The configuration of the trifurcated iris is further oriented to minimize the influence of higher order signals such as the TE21X mode. The peripheral iris are oriented at null points of the primary TE21X mode and the central iris is also located at a null point. An input and an output iris are configured to receive electromagnetic energy in the axial direction of the filter. The input and output irises are oriented to minimize signals in the TE21X secondary mode and any TM modes.

The restraining strips are coupled to the waveguide body at first and second lateral points on either side of the pre-curved narrow sidewall laterally and are spaced apart along the length of the waveguide body, and are made from a material having a second CTE much less than the first CTE. Thus, when the temperature of the waveguide assembly changes, the restraining strips maintain a substantially constant lateral distance between said first and second lateral points over the range of temperatures such that as the length of the waveguide varies with temperature, the curvature of the pre-curved narrow sidewall also changes, causing the effective large dimension of the waveguide assembly to vary such that the combination of said changes results in a constant phase length for said waveguide body.
