    Abstract: An apparatus for dispensing fluids comprises a container 11 holding a liquid to be dispensed which has a piercable septum 55 located near its top, a valve 62 allowing air into, but not liquid out of, the container, a pick-up tube 34 having a first end in fluid communication with the septum and a second end positioned towards the bottom of the container, a closure 60, connected to the septum, which is attached to the container so as to form a closed system, and a needle 35 connected to a docking station which receives the container. The docking station may have a recess 26a which accommodates the container, the needle being located within the recess. The valve may be fabricated from polytetrafluoroethylene. The closure may comprise an insert which closes and is connected to the container and which has a cavity within which the septum is positioned. The docking station may comprise a support 22 positioned so as to tilt the container allowing for more complete removal of the container's contents.

    Abstract: The apparatus has a container (11) for the dispensed liquid, and a docking station for receiving the container. The docking station has a support (28) for holding the container and a pierceable self sealing septum is operatively connected to the container. A needle is connected to the docking station, and has a first end fort piercing the septum and for being in fluid communication with the liquid. The needle's second end transfers the liquid out of the container. The apparatus may also have a pickup tube (34) whose first end is in communication with the septum, and the second end is near the bottom of the container. The needle is mounted on a movable mounting with respect to the docking station k so the needle may be movable as the septum is moved proximate the needle to provide for alignment of the needle and septum. The needle may be mounted inside a probe which is operatively connected to the docking system. The container may have a vent to allow gas to pass into the container but to prevent liquid from exiting the container. The vent is made from polytetrafluoroethylene. The container may have a handle and be made for blow molded polyethylene. The septum may be made from rubber, butyl, or a silicon material with a layer of polytetrafluoroethylene bonded to the silicon.
