    Abstract: A trioxane graft polymer is prepared by polymerizing trioxane in the presence of a Lewis acid and at least one primary polymer selected from the group consisting of polyethers, polyether acetals and polyacetals. The polymerization may be effected by adding the trioxane to a mixture of a polymer and Lewis acid, or by adding the acid to a mixture of trioxane and polymer or by mixing the trioxane and polymer, cooling this mixture to below its melting-point contacting with boron trifluoride gas and polymerizing at above the melting-point of trioxane. The Lewis acid may be BF3, BCl3, AlCl3, FeCl3, SbCl3, SbCl5, ZnCl2, SnCl4, TiCl4, the reaction product of borontrifluoride with dimethyl ether, methylethylether, diethyl-ether, di-isoamyl ether, tetrahydrofuran or tetrahydropyrene, an oxon-ium salt of boron trifluoride, a substituted diazonium salt containing the BF4-, ClO4- or PF6-anion which is either light active or thermoactive.     Abstract: A solution or dispersion obtained by heating, in trioxane, a polyformal of formula -([-O-A-(OCH2)m-])n-where A is a straight-chained or branched saturated or olefinically unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing at least two carbon atoms and which may contain a halogen-substituted aliphatic side chain, or a cycloaliphatic radical or an aralkyl radical, m is a whole number from 1 to 20 and n is a whole number, is polymerized by cooling once or several times to a temperature at least that of the phase transition from the liquid to the solid phase. The polyformal may have been obtained by homopolymerization of a cyclic formal or copolymerization of a cyclic formal or cyclic ether with trioxane, in the presence of a cationic catalyst, and the copolymerization reaction may be used to produce the solution or dispersion of polyformal in trioxan which is then subjected to the further polymerization. Alternatively the polyformal may be obtained by polycondensation of a dihydric alcohol or a dihydric ol-thiol compound with formaldehyde. Specified catalysts are boron fluoride, its complexes, substituted diazonium salts, other Lewis acids e.g. tin tetrachloride and trimethyl oxonium tetrachloroferriate.
