    Abstract: A computer implemented method comprises receiving at least one log record 130 describing a type of operation performed in a source database system 101. Based on the type of operation, an update strategy is selected from a set of pre-defined update strategies. The update strategy specifies a sequence of replication operations to be performed in order to apply changes described in the at least one log record to a target database system 103. The change described in the log record may then be applied using the chosen update strategy in order to synchronize data across multiple databases. If the update of the target database fails, an alternative update strategy may be used instead. The method may be useful in a system in which both older and newer versions of the incremental update software are available, and a choice must be made about which to use.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a computer system comprising a pattern composer (108) operatively coupled to a source IT-infrastructure (130) and to a tar­get IT-infrastructure (116, 118, 120). The source IT-infrastructure hosts a composite application (128) comprising multiple functional modules (C1-04) connected to each other via communication links. An abstract pattern com­prises first nodes and first links representing the functional module and communication links and lacks resource-related data enabling a deployment engine (110) to instantiate said resource for providing a runtime environ­ment for the functional modules and communication links. The target IT-infrastructures has assigned a resource catalogue (RC1-RC3) comprising, for each resource available in said target IT-infrastructure, a specification of said resource's capabilities, and comprises second nodes and links each second node being a representation of one or more of the resources of the target IT-infrastructure and comprising an indication the capabilities of said one or more resources represented by said second node. The pattern composer is configured for iteratively supplementing the first nodes and links of the abstract pattern by the second nodes and second links. There­by, the requirements of any supplemented first and second nodes and links are inherited to the supplementing nodes and links in each iteration.

    Abstract: A trigger event is detected (402) and in response to the trigger event an apply engine stops applying data changes to at least one part of the target database (403). In response to stopping the applying of data changes a start load signal (SLS) is inserted into a log of the source database for identifying unreplicated data changes. Loading of a part of the data content from the master database to the target database is then initialised (406). After the loading has completed an end of load signal (ELS) is inserted into the log and the apply engine applies stored write statements while identifying and skipping all write statements whose data changes were already transferred to the target database by the loading.
