    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the equal reference model data among the clients by forming a constitution where every client has the conference model data stored in a server, an instruction is sent to the server when a certain client edits a model and the server immediately processes the received instruction to send the instruction again to the client. SOLUTION: A client computer 32A has a processor 34 which operates by the instructions of client codes 36A, 36B and 36C which are stored in a memory 38 and/or the disk of each client computer. The images are outputted via a video peripheral device 40 of a monitor, etc., connected to the processor 34. The computer 32A stores the current model data 60, receives a model object 36A from the servers 50A to 50D respectively by an apply Op Code method 62 and updates the object 36A. The object 36A is sent to every client.

    Abstract: There is described a personal conferencing method and system for a client (32)/server (30) environment. The server (30) stores conference model data (60) such as a shared chalkboard or a molecular model and each client has a copy of the conference model data (61). When one of said clients (32A, 32B, 32C) edits the model (61) it creates an instruction (64A) for operating on the model and sends the instruction (64A) to the server (30). The server (30) operates (62) on its conference model data (60) on receipt of the instruction (64A) and resends the instruction (64B) to each of the clients (32A, 32B, 32C) and each client (32A, 32B, 32C) performs the same operation (63) on their respective copies of the conference data model (61). Whereby after a plurality of different operating instructions (64B) from different clients (32A, 32B, 32C) the respective copies of the conference model data (60) are equivalent.

    Abstract: Instructions that are likely to cause program execution to jump to one or more functions comprising recognised sequences of prolog instructions are identified by a compiler or a preprocessor and replaced with modified jump instructions. The recognised sequences of prolog instructions are stored in a logic module. The logic module is arranged to intercept the modified jump instructions during program execution and supply the corresponding sequence of prolog instructions directly to the processor. By this means, function calls that generate program branches to addresses that are not in an instruction cache need not stall the processor as a result of the cache miss. The compiler or preprocessor may be further arranged to detect and modify the first instruction of known epilog code to be handled by the logic module in the same way.

    Abstract: A local computer 132 is connected to a remote computer 136 over a network for collaborative processing, whereby changes to the screen of the local computer are to be reflected on the screen of the remote computer. A hook routine 110 is used to intercept requests to update the screen of the local computer, and the area of the screen to be updated is determined from the request. Another routine then obtains the bit map for the area of the screen which has been updated, and only this bit map is transmitted to the remote computer, rather than one corresponding to the whole screen.

    Abstract: A system and method are provided for processing data representing stored images so that a set of such stored images can be represented simultaneously on an output medium having a specified output area in such a way that more effective use of the output area is made than previously possible with prior art techniques. Typically the set of stored images to be represented will result from an image database search and the output area will be a display screen (80) of a monitor. The system of the present invention includes a divider (40) for dividing the output area of the display screen into a number of regions dependent on the number of stored images retrieved by said database, and an assignment device (50) then associates those stored images with an associated one of the created regions. Once this has been done a scaling device (60) is employed to scale each stored image associated with a display region so that, when those images are displayed on the display screen (80) of the monitor, they will occupy a selected area within the associated region of the display screen. Using this technique a set of images can be displayed on a display screen simultaneously in a way that allows the whole output area to be utilized, irrespective of the number of stored images in the set.
