Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the development of an electrostatic fault before the formation of short rings. SOLUTION: Gate lines 46 are formed on a glass substrate 2. The gate lines 46 are disconnected and projecting parts 52, 54 for discharge are formed across gaps 50 for discharge at the disconnected ends. The projecting parts 52, 54 for discharge exist nearly at the centers of the cut ends of the gate lines 46. Gate insulating films are formed on the gate lines 46 and in the gaps 50 for discharge. Two through-holes 58 are opened in the gate insulating films near the projecting parts 52, 54 for discharge of the respective gate lines 46. Metallic wiring layers 48 are formed on the gate insulating films so as to embed the through-holes 58.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent destruction due to static electricity, and to drive a display device by low power consumption. CONSTITUTION: A short-circuit line 36 and a short-circuit line 38 connected through a resistance 40 are provided on a transparent substrate 14 of a liquid crystal display, and each data line 28a-28m is connected through a switching circuit 46 with the short-circuit line 36, and each gate line 32a-32n is connected through a switching circuit 52 with the short-circuit line 38. The switching circuits 46 and 52 are turned on when a potential difference between the data line 28 and the short-circuit line 36 or the potential difference between the gate line 32 and the short-circuit line 38 is beyond a prescribed value. At the time of displaying a picture on a liquid crystal display, the mean voltage of a voltage applied to each data line is applied to the short-circuit line 36, the mean voltage of the voltage applied to each gate line is applied to the short- circuit line 38, and the switching circuits 46 and 52 are turned off.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a contaminant which exudes from a capping material or a sealing material in the vicinity of an injection port from penetrating into a pixel area and to suppress picture quality defects liable to occur at an injection port part in a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: The contaminant which exudes from the capping material 16 is prevented from penetrating into a display area 13 and defective picture quality liable to occur in the display area 13 is suppressed by forming an injecting port pole structure 18 compatible with a liquid crystal in a region in the vicinity of the injection port 15 of the liquid crystal. That is, the liquid crystal display device having an array substrate 11 and a CF substrate which are deposed while keeping a prescribed interval between them and the liquid crystal sealed in a gap between them is provided with a pole structure 17 for controlling the gap, the sealing material 14 provided outside the display area 13 for sealing the liquid crystal in the gap and forming the injection port 15 which is opened for injecting the liquid crystal, the capping material 16 for capping the injection port 15 after the liquid crystal is sealed and the injection port pole structure 18 formed in the region in the vicinity of the injection port 15 and dividing the injection port 15 into plural parts using the same material as the material of the pole structure 17.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively remove defects in a liquid crystal display device due to the sealing material entering into a display area in a liquid crystal display device which consists of narrow frame. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device has a first substrate 1 and a second substrate 2 disposed with a prescribed gap d1, and a liquid crystal sealed in the gap d1. Here, the device has a sealing material 4 disposed in the gap d1 between the first substrate 1 and the second substrate 2 and disposed outside of the display area 3 to seal the liquid crystal, and has a wall structure 5 in the form of a plurality of lines, consisting of a different material from the sealing material 4 and disposed outside of the display area 3 and inside of the sealing material 4.
