Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve conventional DVD processing for an enciphered code data stream. SOLUTION: A device, a method and a computer program product for digitally processing an enciphered data stream based on CSS technology e.g. are provided. The digital processing insures the communication of row data in a computer system from a central processing unit(CPU) 11 to an optional accessable structure such as a memory 25 and a system bus 26. The decoding of a CSS enciphered data stream is generated in a module to be executed by the CPU 11, and prior to the transfer of data from the CPU 11, the enciphering of the data is executed. Since the data are processed by the method, software for the CSS enciphered data stream can be decoded and the insurance of data having copyright can be held. Various technical procedures for establishing an enciphering/decoding algorithm pair to be used are described.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interactive multimedia service at low cost on a communication network. SOLUTION: A method and a device are provided for distributing multimedia/ video data from a server (host processor) to plural clients connected to a communication network. More particularly preprocessed video and multimedia data packets are stored in a switch 60 in the network. When a client desires the reception of video data and multimedia data, such a request is transmitted to the host processor. Next, the host transmits a control message to the switch 60 where the requested data are stored. These switches 60 then transmit the requested data to requesting clients. When the requested data are not stored in the switches 60, it is necessary to directly transfer these data from the server to the requesting clients.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable data of a non-ciphered format to be communicated to an internal structure from a CPU, without revealing them by blocking revelation at transferring of raw data stream. SOLUTION: Prior to enciphering, an enciphering module 22 of a CPU 11 transmits a signal to a decoding module 23 or a decoder 27 and allows a specific algorithm the enciphering module 22 uses be known. The decoding module 23 and the decoder 27 use a decoding algorithm corresponding to a selected enciphering/decoding algorithm pair. The decoding module 23 or the decoder 27 uses a resident decoding algorithm and decodes the downloaded decoding algorithm. The enciphering module 22 uses an actual enciphering algorithm, enciphers data, and the decoding module 23 or the decoder 27 decodes the data by using a downloaded algorithm routine. A reception data processing module 24 or a device 28 executes demand data processing, such as an MPEG decoding of a live compression video/sound data signal.

Abstract: Apparatus, method and computer program product are provided for digitally processing an encrypted data stream scrambled, for example, according to content scrambling system (CSS) technology. This digital processing insures against communication of clear data within the computer system from a central processing unit (CPU) to any accessible structure, such as memory or a system bus. Descrambling of the (CSS) scrambled data stream occurs within a module executing on the CPU, which is followed by re-encryption of the data prior to transfer from the CPU. By so processing the data, integrity of copyrighted material is maintained, while allowing for software descrambling of the CSS encrypted data stream. Various techniques for establishing the encryption/decryption algorithm pair employed are described. Decryption of the re-encrypted data can occur at a receiving software module and/or a receiving hardware device, such as a decoder.
