Abstract:
Apparatus and method for detecting short-term speed variations in a reel-to-reel tape drive for use with digital data, comprising counters (132) for generating time windows representing equal numbers of data bits read from the tape, further counters (135) for counting up during one window and down during the next, comparators (136, 137) for comparing the residual count of the up/down counters with preset limits and an error indicator (138, 134) for indicating the condition when the residual count exceeds the permitted bounds. The invention may be practised over a plurality of data tracks, in which case the apparatus includes means (139, 140) for indicating an overall error when an error has been detected on all tracks.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a data storage device comprising a circular disc (30), a data storage medium on at least one surface of the disc, a spiral track extending within the storage medium about the axis of the disc, and a plurality of data storage sectors formed on the track. According to the invention the storage device is characterised in that the storage medium is formed with a reference mark (100) extending radially from the axis of the disc, and the data storage sectors are arranged in groups extending along the spiral track, one end of each group of sectors being located adjacent to one of the points of intersection of the reference mark with the spiral track.
Abstract:
A record carrier having essentially circular tracks concentrically located around a point of rotation. The record carrier is divided into circular zones each having m tracks, where m is an integer. Each track within a zone is subdivided into n sectors, where n is an integer which is constant per zone and which increases as the zone is more remote from the point of rotation. Each sector including a header portion and a data portion. The header portions in the radial direction in each zone are in line. In each zone the condition of m*n=j*k is satisfied, where is j an integer greater than or equal to 2 and is constant for each zone, and k is an integer.
