Abstract: A system for mounting a head/disk assembly (HDA), of the type including at least one information storage disk, a spindle on which said disk is rotatabl y mounted and a rotary actuator for positioning at least one head relative to the disk comprises a support structure and means (87, 83) for mounting the H DA on the support structure to permit a limited amount of substantially free rotation in reaction to movement of the actuator thereby to reduce vibration in the HDA. The HDA may be part of a hard disk enclosure (HDE) or an entire hard disk drive (HDD) mounted in a computer chassis.

Abstract: A head carriage assembly includes a rigid arm 6 of rectangular cross-section, jointed to a head positioning device. A head slider 2 is supported at one end of a resilient suspension 4, at the other end of which is am L-shaped mounting plate 46. The mounting section 46T is parallel to the top surface 6T of the arm 6 and to the suspension 4. The mounting section 46S is fixed to the side wall 6S of the arm by screws 50. This avoids increasing the thickness of an assembly which would occur if the mounting section 46T were to be fixed to the top surface.

Further, a computer chassis includes a housing, at least one disk drive assembly for being housed by the housing, and a plurality of theta-mounts integrally built within the housing.
