Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a robot system including a conventional robot commonly with relatively-simplified moving platform and also with a voice-synthesis function of a certain kind for uttering a plurality of words and the voice while achieving monitoring a remote patient and auxiliary functions.
SOLUTION: The robot has a camera and a monitor which are attached to a housing. The robot is further attached to the housing and also has a platform linked with a controller. The controller is linked with a broadband interface.

Abstract: A robotic system (10) that includes a remote controlled robot (12) with at least five degrees of freedom and a teleconferencing function. The robot may include a camera, a monitor and a holonomic platform all attached to a robot housing. The robot may be controlled by a remote control station (16) that also has a camera (26) and a monitor (24). The remote control station may be linked to a base station (14) that is wirelessly coupled to the robot. The cameras and monitors allow a care giver at the remote location to monitor and care for a patient through the robot. The holonomic platform provides three degrees of freedom to allow the robot to move about a home or facility to locate and/or follow a patient. The robot also has mechanisms to provide at least two degrees of freedom for the camera.
