PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal spray method for obtaining a compact thermal spray film with a low oxygen content by the HVOF method without excessively heating a substrate; and a thermal spray apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: A gas shroud is attached to an HVOF gun barrel. An inert gas is supplied from a circumferential slit into the inside space of the shroud so that metal particles sprayed by the gun and shielded from the air are accelerated and caused to collide with the surface of a substrate. Abstract:
A method of thermal spray in which an HVOF spray gun barrel is fitted with a gas shroud so as to energize metal particles sprayed from a gun and increase the speed thereof, and in which inert gas is fed from a circumferential slit into the internal space of the shroud so as to cause metal particles to collide with a substrate surface while realizing shield from the atmospheric air, thereby forming a dense thermal spray coating film of low oxygen content without overheating of the substrate according to the HVOF process. Further, there is provided a thermal spray apparatus therefor.
