PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal spray method for obtaining a compact thermal spray film with a low oxygen content by the HVOF method without excessively heating a substrate; and a thermal spray apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: A gas shroud is attached to an HVOF gun barrel. An inert gas is supplied from a circumferential slit into the inside space of the shroud so that metal particles sprayed by the gun and shielded from the air are accelerated and caused to collide with the surface of a substrate. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a measuring instrument, capable of measuring dynamic strain occurring in an object to be welded in the course of welding at desired position, except a molten pool and at a desired time, even under the influence of arc light. SOLUTION: In this method of measuring dynamic strain, a strain measuring point under the influence of arc light is irradiated with a laser beam, and the change and movement of a speckle pattern caused by mutual interference of irregular reflected laser beams are detected on surface of sensors. When the irregularly reflected laser beams are detected on the surface of the sensor, the arc light is shaded by shade tubes, each having a pin hole.

The present invention provides a cermet coating that can take advantage of the hardness of a powder for a hard reinforcement phase more effectively, and spraying particles for forming the cermet coating. The cermet coating is formed on a base surface and has a hard reinforcement phase and a binder phase. The cermet coating has a Vickers hardness of from 50% to less than 100% of the hardness of the powder for a hard reinforcement phase, and has a surface roughness (center-line average roughness Ra) of less than 3.0. The cermet coating is formed by heating spraying particles prepared as aggregates of a powder for a hard reinforcement phase and a powder for a binder phase, and applying the spraying particles to a base at a supersonic velocity to integrate the powder for a hard reinforcement phase with the powder for a binder phase.

A method of thermal spray in which an HVOF spray gun barrel is fitted with a gas shroud so as to energize metal particles sprayed from a gun and increase the speed thereof, and in which inert gas is fed from a circumferential slit into the internal space of the shroud so as to cause metal particles to collide with a substrate surface while realizing shield from the atmospheric air, thereby forming a dense thermal spray coating film of low oxygen content without overheating of the substrate according to the HVOF process. Further, there is provided a thermal spray apparatus therefor.

In a laser welding method, the invasion of atmosphere gas into a molten metal and the occurrence of welding defects are prevented by coating a material having a high affinity for the atmosphere gas on the back surface of a work and therefore it is possible for a large output laser to easily weld a thick plate by employing a simple method.
