    Abstract: A pickup cartridge for a video disc palyer encloses a stylus arm unit comprising a stylus arm carring a stylus at one end and a magnetizable connector plate secured at its other end. A permanent magnet is centrally located in a recess provided in a magnetizable support member which is mounted in a carriage of the player. Then the counter plate is engaged with the support member, the seperation between the connector plate and the permanent magnet is greater than the seperation between the permanent magnet and the walls defining the recess.

    Abstract: A set-up switch, employed in making gray scale adjustments during the manufacture and servicing of a television receiver, is constructed to disable the receiver''s vertical deflection by opening the cathode circuit of the vertical output tube. By connecting into a relatively low impedance cathode circuit, any tendency for the switch network to pick up and couple horizontal pulse voltages into the vertical circuitry will be minimized, and interlace performance will be optimized. This will be so though the leads from the vertical output tube to the service switch on the television chassis are of the order of 24 inches, and longer.

    Abstract: A transmitting station gains access to a time division multiple access communication system without interferring with existing system communications by transmitting frequency shift modulated narrow band accessing signals to the system relay station which may be ground-based or in an orbiting satellite. By transmitting the accessing signals at a frequency located within the spectral null of the information signals being transmitted by the other stations in the system, the accessing signals can be processed to cause the signal transmission from the new station to occur in the correct time slot within the system time frame without interferring with the transmission of the other stations in the system.

    Abstract: A pickup cartridge for a video disc player encloses a stylus arm unit comprising a stylus arm carrying a stylus at one end thereof. A connector plate is secured to the other end of the stylus arm via a compliant member. A spring at the stylus carrying end of the stylus arm releasably retracts the stylus arm to a position within the confines of the cartridge. A diaphragm flexibly suspends the connector plate in the cartridge at an angular orientation relative to the cartridge so that, when the stylus arm is held in the retracted position in the cartridge, the compliant member is not under stress. When the cartridge is installed in the video disc player, a support member engages the connector plate to change its orientation with respect to the cartridge such as to permit the stylus to be moved to protrude outside the confines of the cartridge without bending or stressing the compliant member.

    Abstract: 1,257,712. Cathode-ray tube circuits. R.C.A. CORPORATION. 7 March, 1969 [11 March, 1968], No. 12150/69. Heading H4T. In a convergence circuit for a multi-beam cathode-ray tube, two convergence windings, specifically the windings 1H and 2H (Fig. 1) for horizontal convergence correction of the red and green guns of a tri-gun colour display tube, are connected in series and supplied via an adjustable inductor 13 with pulses of horizontal frequency from the horizontal deflection circuit. The inductor 13 integrates the pulses and provides a sawtooth voltage which is integrated by the convergence windings to produce therein a parabolic current wave, the amplitude of which may be adjusted by adjustment of the inductor 13. During the first half of the horizontal scan period diode 18 conducts and the rectified current flowing in the windings 1H and 2H clamps the trough of the parabolic current to a fixed valve, so that static centre convergence does not change as a function of control adjustments. During the latter half of the horizontal scan, when diode 18 is non- conducting, the shunt path including resistor 17 and diode 18 has a high resistance and the amplitude of the saw-tooth may be adjusted by adjustment of potentiometer 16 in the shunt path including capacitor 14 and resistors 15 and 16 without such adjustment affecting the conditions during the first half of the scan during which adjustment is effected by means of the inductor 13. This latter adjustment, which is made first, a cross-hatch generator producing a pattern of equally spaced vertical and horizontal lines being employed, aligns the vertical red and green lines on the lefthand side of the screen (the first half of the horizontal scan) after which potentiometer 16 (the master tilt control) is adjusted to align the vertical red and green lines on the righthand side of the screen (the last half of the horizontal scan) and differential tilt control is then affected by means of potentiometer 20 to align the horizontal red and green lines. The blue horizontal convergence circuit is a known type. Component values are given.
