Abstract: A vortex flow transmitter (10) has a filtering circuit (20) receiving a noise contaminated input signal representative of the flow and which has a fundamental frequency varying responsively to flow. The filter (20) filters the input signal using one of a family of HP filter characteristics. Each member of the family of HP filters has varying corner frequencies, each filter having a unique switchup and a unique switchdown value assigned to it. Adaptive response means (40) select a current HP filter for use in the filter means. The adaptive means use one selection method when the flow is increasing and another selection method when the flow decreases. Output means (52) convert the signal from the filter means into a transmitter output, typically a 4-20 mA current or a frequency output representative of the flow.

Abstract: A transmitter (200) senses a process variable (201) and provides a two-wire output adjusted by a span adjustment (203). The transmitter (200) has a sensor (212) which senses the process variable and provides a sensor signal (214). An output circuit (238) provides a two-wire output representative of the sensed process variable. A span-controlling circuit (242) is coupled between the sensor (212) and the output circuit (238) and receives a span adjustment. The span-controlling circuit (242) includes an amplifier (220) coupled to a potentiometer (216) which adjusts the span based on the span adjustment. The wiper (242) of the potentiometer (216) is connected to the amplifier output so that one portion of the potentiometer resistance (R3) provides feedback from the amplifier output to the amplifier input. A second portion of the potentiometer resistance (R4) is coupled between the amplifier output and the output circuit (238). Both portions of resistance affect both the span and the resolution of the output. The arrangement provides an improved resolution over a wide turn-down-ratio.

Abstract: A pressure sensor module (50) and method for preinstallation without a converter module. The pressure sensor module (50) is hermetically sealed and can remain undamaged in an installation environment without a converter module. The pressure sensor module (50) can be assembled later with a converter module in the installation environment. The pressure sensor module (50) includes an isolator (54), a pressure sensor (58) and a circuit (60) that provides a bus (64) for energization, control and a digital pressure output. The bus (64) is connected to contacts (68) in an insulating feedthrough. An integrally formed hermetic external support structure surrounds the pressure sensor (58) and circuit (60). The hermetic external support structure has a threaded process fluid inlet (74) around the isolator (54), and a threaded support sleeve (76) supporting the feedthrough.
