Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate replacement of a rotor blade by cutting off a defective blade leaving a blade stub part, forming a platform on the rest thereof, and then, integrating a replacement blade by joining with a platform of the replacement blade, and carrying out finishing by cutting an excess part of the joining part. SOLUTION: In the case where a defective blade of a rotor with an integrated blade is repaired, a part of the defect blade, namely, a blade stub 34 is left, and the other is eliminated. A radial direction outer surface 42 of the blade stub 34 is mechanically worked to a prescribed flat form in a specified direction in relation to a disk 12. After a blade repair die 24 is installed on the blade stub 34, a hydraulic cylinder 41 is operated, die half bodys 26, 28 are fixed to the blade stub 34, and the platform 46 is formed integratedly with the blade stub 34 in this condition. After that, a platform 52 of a replacement blade 50 is joined with the platform 46, and then, an excess part is eliminated, and repair is completed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily replacing a rotor blade of a rotor with an integral blade. SOLUTION: In a method for replacing a rotor blade 14 of a rotor 10 with an integral blade having a disk 12, the rotor blade 14 is detached in such a manner as to leave a blade stub portion 15 extending outward from the disk 12 and having a front edge, a rear edge, a suction part and a pressure part. Subsequently, a collar 24 having a hollow portion for receiving the blade stub portion 15 is prepared, and further, the blade stub portion 15 is contained inside the hollow portion of the collar 24, so that the collar 24 is connected to the blade stub portion 15. Consequently, a platform is formed of the blade stub portion 15 and the collar 24. Finally, another rotor blade to be replaced is connected to the platform.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for fabricating an integrally bladed rotor which comprises providing a hub section (12), preferably formed from a titanium based alloy, and welding an airfoil (14), also preferably formed from a titanium based alloy, to the hub section. The method further comprises partially aging and cooling the hub section prior to welding and aging the airfoil and the weld joint between the airfoil and the hub section subsequent to welding. The post welding aging step is preferably carried out using a novel encapsulated local airfoil heating device having a plurality of heating elements woven into a jacket made from a high temperature cloth material. The method of the present invention may also be used to repair integrally bladed rotors.

Abstract: In the repair or replacement of vane assembly retaining lugs, a replacement lug of a wrought alloy is solid state bonded to the vane assembly in place of the previous retaining lug. The existing lug is first removed from the assembly to leave a stub portion which is machined to form a surface to which a replacement lug may be bonded. A replacement lug blank is then positioned adjacent the stub face, a vacuum drawn in that region and a bonding force applied, the interface between the stub and replacement blank being heated locally. After bonding the assembly is heat treated and the replacement lug machined to a desired configuration.

Abstract: A hole in a metal component such as a gas turbine rotor flange (3) of superalloy or titaniurn is repaired by enlarging the hole to a uniform diameter (5), inserting a plug (6), of the same or similar material and heat treatment in the enlarged hole (5) and applying sufficient pressure (9,10) to the plug and heating the plug and the surrounding material to forge join the plug and the walls of the hole whereby a fully recrystallized joint interface is achieved between the plug and the walls of the hole. Excess material is removed.
