    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a core for investment casting capable of manufacturing the core thinner than a present ceramic core and having improved mechanical characteristics. SOLUTION: The core is a composite article including a heat resistant metal element and a ceramic element. The heat resistant metal element is provided so as to improve the mechanical characteristics of the core or to allow the core having a shape and a shape dimension which cannot be obtained by the other method. In one embodiment, the overall core can be formed of the heat resistant metal constituting element. The core can be used for investment-casting a gas turbine superhard alloy constituting element.     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute die casting a member having high m.p. in a good condition by selecting the ratio of the inside diameter and the outside diameter of a sleeve so as to minimize the thermal deformation of the sleeve in the case of pouring molten material into the shot sleeve. SOLUTION: The cylindrical sleeve has the inside diameter Ri and the outside diameter Ro in the cold state, and as the molten material is poured into a low portion, the low portion is expanded more than the portion at the upper side and deformed as shown with the broken line to form an elliptic shape shown with a major axis Ma and a minor axis Mm. In such a case, the ratio (Ro/Ri) of the outside diameter and the inside diameter is desirable to be at least 1.5. In this way, the molten material having suitable volume, (particularly, in the case of filling only a small portion of the molten material), is formed as bow shape in the longitudinal direction or formed as the elliptic shape, and it can be sufficiently minimized that the sleeve is thermally deformed and the machine can be prevented from jamming. further, the inside diameter is desirable to be at least 1.5 inch.

The refractory metal elements are provided to enhance the mechanical properties of the core and/or to permit the fabrication of cores having shapes and geometries that could not otherwise be achieved. In one embodiment, the entire core may be made of refractory metal components. The cores may be used to investment cast gas turbine superalloy components.
