    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute die casting a member having high m.p. in a good condition by selecting the ratio of the inside diameter and the outside diameter of a sleeve so as to minimize the thermal deformation of the sleeve in the case of pouring molten material into the shot sleeve. SOLUTION: The cylindrical sleeve has the inside diameter Ri and the outside diameter Ro in the cold state, and as the molten material is poured into a low portion, the low portion is expanded more than the portion at the upper side and deformed as shown with the broken line to form an elliptic shape shown with a major axis Ma and a minor axis Mm. In such a case, the ratio (Ro/Ri) of the outside diameter and the inside diameter is desirable to be at least 1.5. In this way, the molten material having suitable volume, (particularly, in the case of filling only a small portion of the molten material), is formed as bow shape in the longitudinal direction or formed as the elliptic shape, and it can be sufficiently minimized that the sleeve is thermally deformed and the machine can be prevented from jamming. further, the inside diameter is desirable to be at least 1.5 inch.

    Abstract: Weldable Cast Nickel Base Superalloy Nickel base superalloys of the type referred to as Waspaloy are rendered weldable by limiting the iron content to about one twentieth of that which is commonly present, adding small amounts of manganese to the alloy and removing the zirconium which is commonly present. In addition, the sulfur, bismuth and lead levels are held to the lowest possible limits, and preferably the aluminum and molybdenum are maintained in the lower half of their normal range. By implementing these alloying strategies, the weldability of the cast material is dramatically improved and for the first time castings of the Waspaloy materials are rendered consistently weldable on a commercial scale.

    Abstract: A fushion welded surfacing process for use with crack prone substrates is described. The process involves the application of an intermediate layer of crack resistant alloy by fusion welding followed by the application of the desired final surfacing alloy by fusion welding. The intermediate layer is an age hardenable nickel superalloy to which intentional additions of manganese have been made. The final surfacing alloy may be of the hardfacing type or may be of a type which imparts corrosion and oxidation resistance to the underlying article.
