Abstract: Brazed structures (10) comprising hollow components (12) having a closure component (14) bonded thereto by a metallic brazing alloy (16) for closing off an end of the hollow component (12) are disassembled by locating a wire transport material (20) in the hollow component (12) and covering the open face of the hollow component with a wire fiber material (22). Heat is then applied to liquefy the brazing alloy (16) which is drawn up into the metal wire fiber material (22) by capillary affect created by the wire transport material (20).

The method further includes controlling an intensity of the laser beam based on a sensed position of a user's hand relative to the laser beam.

Abstract: A method of repairing a braze joint (16) and the resulting joint includes removing an unsuitable portion (20) of a first joining material (18) in a joint (16) between a first member (12) and a second member (14) of an aerospace assembly (10) and cleaning the joint (16). A stripping solution is used to remove the unsuitable portion (20) of the first joining material (18). A first cleaning solution is used to clean the joint (16), and the joint (16) is further cleaned using a second cleaning solution. During a rebrazing step, a second joining material (60) moves into a void left by the removed unsuitable portion (20) from the removal step to form a new joint between the first member (12) and the second member (14) that includes the remaining first joining material (18) and the second joining material (60).

Abstract: DUAL PROCESS NICKEL ALLOY CRACK REPAIR A process for repairing cracks in a workpiece, such as a turbine engine component, comprises the steps of: providing a workpiece having a crack to be repaired; applying a nickel or cobalt base alloy material to a root of the crack in an amount sufficient to fill a portion of the crack; subjecting the workpiece with the nickel or cobalt base alloy material to a first heat treatment at a temperature in the range of from about 1950 to 2300OF for a time period in the range of from about 5.0 to 30 minutes; applying a weld material to the crack; and subjecting the workpiece with the weld material to a second heat treatment.
