Abstract: The current disclosure provides reinforced aerogel compositions that are durable and easy to handle, have favorable performance in aqueous environments, have favorable insulation properties, and have favorable, reaction to fire, combustion and flame-resistance properties. Also provided are methods of preparing or manufacturing such reinforced aerogel compositions. In certain embodiments, the composition has a silica-based aerogel framework, reinforced with an open-cell macroporous framework, and includes one or more fire-class additives, where the silica-based aerogel framework comprises at least one hydrophobic-bound silicon and the composition or each of its components has desired properties.

Abstract: A thermoplastic composition includes: a first branched polycarbonate copolymer end-capped with 4-hydroxybenzonitrile (4-HBN) having a molecular weight M1; and a second branched polycarbonate copolymer end-capped with 4-HBN having a molecular weight M2. M1 is less than M2. Methods for determining entanglement molecular weight (Me) of a polycarbonate copolymer include: preparing a sample of a branched polycarbonate copolymer including a 1,1,1-tris-hydroxy-phenylethane (THPE) branching agent and that is end-capped with 4-HBN; determining phase angle (∂) versus complex modulus (G*) of the sample using a small amplitude oscillatory rheology process at a specified temperature; determining a minima in the ∂ of the sample; determining a plateau modulus (GN) of the sample from the determined minima of ∂; and calculating the Me of the sample from the GN.

Abstract: Provided is a silane-crosslinkable polyolefin-based flame-retardant resin composition having high flexibility and high handleability, and an insulated electric wire and a wire harness obtained using the flame-retardant resin composition. The flame-retardant resin composition includes, as resin components: a silane-grafted polyolefin (A) obtained by grafting a silane coupling agent onto a polyolefin; an unmodified polyolefin (B); and a modified polyolefin (C) having one or more functional groups selected from a carboxyl group, an ester group, an acid anhydride group, an amino group, and an epoxy group. The resin composition further includes a flame retardant (D) and a crosslinking catalyst (E). A crosslinked product obtained by subjecting the flame-retardant resin composition to silane crosslinking has a melting point of 80° C. or higher and a flexural modulus of 100 MPa or less.

Abstract: It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a resin composition that is excellent in tracking resistance performance and that can be used to produce a molded article provided with rigidity. A polyphenylene ether resin composition includes (a) a resin component; (b) titanium oxide; and (c) an inorganic filler. The (c) inorganic filler has a thermal conductivity of 2 to 12 [W/(m·K)]. The (a) resin component contains 50 to 90 parts by mass of (a1) a polyphenylene ether in 100 parts by mass of the (a) resin component. The amount of the (b) titanium oxide is 5 to 40 parts by mass relative to 100 parts by mass of the (a) resin component. The amount of the (c) inorganic filler is 5 to 50 parts by mass relative to 100 parts by mass of the (a) resin component. The mass ratio of the (b) titanium oxide to the (c) inorganic filler ((b)/(c)) is 0.2 to 8.0.
