Abstract:
This invention relates to a liquid composition for the control of pitch deposition in pulp and paper making comprising an aqueous solution of (1) a derivatized cationic guar, and (2) a nonionic polymer. The invention also relates to a process for inhibiting pitch deposition in pulp and papermaking systems and on papermaking equipment.
Abstract:
This invention relates to heat curable foundry binder systems comprising as separate components (a) a caustic solution of an alkali silicate and (b) hydrated aluminum silicate. The solution is mixed with sand to form a foundry mix. The resulting foundry mix is shaped and heated at an elevated temperature to form a cured foundry shape. Heat is applied by warm air, baking in an oven, microwave, or preferably from hot-box equipment.
Abstract:
A method of producing a flexible laminate and a flexible laminate produced by the method are provided. The method involves laminating flexible substrates with a urethane adhesive and allowing the urethane adhesive to cure. The urethane adhesive comprises at least one polyisocyanate, at least one polyfunctional curative, at least one metal based catalyst and a catalyst blocking agent. The catalyst blocking agent allows for improved control of the curing rate of the urethane adhesive in the flexible laminate. The curing rate of the urethane adhesive can be controlled with heat or actinic radiation or both. The method allows for faster and more economical production of flexible laminates.
Abstract:
The liquid, uncrosslinked, UV-curable Michael addition resins and blends of the present invention exhibit performance properties that make them very effective coating materials and these properties can be modified greatly depending upon composition. Michael donors and acceptors can be constructed from Type I and/or Type II photoinitiators and can be included in the coating compositions disclosed to make UV-curable coatings with extraordinary photoreactivity and properties. Resins can be produced that show excellent adhesion to metals, plastics, wood, paper and glass. They exhibit wide ranges of hardness, toughness, flexibility, tensile strength, stain resistance, scratch resistance, impact resistance, solvent resistance, etc. Almost any desired coating performance parameter can be attained by proper selection of raw material building blocks.
Abstract:
The invention relates to UV curable, low gloss overprint varnish coating formulations and cured coatings prepared therefrom. The low gloss overprint varnish formulations contain a Michael addition resin, a polyamide powder and a reactive monomer.
Abstract:
A novel use of nanomaterials as a viscosity modifier and thermal conductivity improver for gear oil and other lubricating oil compositions. The gear oils of the instant invention have a higher viscosity index, higher shear stability, and improved thermal conductivity compared to currently available conventional gear oils. The preferred nanoparticles also impart a reduction in the coefficient of friction, including reduced friction in the boundary lubrication regime. These properties are obtained by replacing part or all of the polymer thickener or viscosity index improver or some other part of the composition normally used in gear oils with nanomaterials of suitable shape, size, and composition.
Abstract:
A system and method for pathogen control in reprocessing of foods are disclosed. The system and method use chlorine dioxide to eliminate pathogens from carcasses as the carcasses are passed through a spray cabinet.
Abstract:
The invention is a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) composition, which is the ultraviolet radiation (UV) cured reaction product of a polyester-polyether-based urethane acrylate, one or more acrylate monomers, and a UV photosensitizer. The polyester-polyether-based urethane acrylate is the reaction product of between about 50 and 90 wt-% of a polyester diol having a molecular weight ranging from about 500 to 3200; between about 10 and 50 wt-% of a polyether polyol having a molecular weight ranging from about 1000 to 6000; between about 1 and 5 wt-% of a hydroxyfunctional acrylate; and a polyisocyanate.
Abstract:
Self-photo-initiating liquid oligomeric compositions are disclosed. The oligomeric compositions are formed from multifunctional mercaptans and Michael addition polyacrylate resins, synthesized from multifunctional acrylates an beta-dicarbonyl Michael donors, specifically beta-keto esters, beta-diketones, beta-ketoamides or beta-ketoanilides or combinations thereof. The oligomeric compositions are provided along with uses thereof and methods of fabricating.
